Hypnobirthing course erasing women

Enraged to have just downloaded the digital pack from the positive birth company to find they have re recorded all the videos to erase the words woman and mother to use gender neutral language. I am now reduced to a gestational parent. The first video is the founder apologising that she didn't centre inclusivity much earlier. This is the third time I've paid for the course as I like a refresh with every pregnancy and have found the courses great in the past but I just can't get past this erasure, it makes my blood boil, how women are jumping on board to erase the word woman and mother from a course about labour and birth, it's solely a woman's right of passage, please tell me I am not alone

Really? Who cares. I always think of myself as a parent anyway.

LaBellina · 10/07/2023 11:43

Thanks for the heads up to not give them any money, to not like anything from them on social media and tell expectant mothers how they approach women like a fucking vessel.

Second everyone else who says ask a refund and tell hem exactly why. If they don’t want to give you your money back I’d be asking about it again publicly on social media so if they don’t come forward, they won’t get money from other GC expectant mothers who see your post.

12RedRoses · 10/07/2023 11:57

I would ask for a refund in that the videos are helping you relax and making you tense which is the complete opposite of the point!

AtrociousCircumstance · 10/07/2023 11:59

Fuck this stupidity. Unbelievable.

Please ask for a refund and say why. Jarring use of gender woo bullshit disturbs the hypnosis.

Massive market out there for a company to produce this without the erasure of women.

Duckskitbank · 10/07/2023 13:27

They can fuck right off.
Ask for a refund and go to the Daily Mail if they refuse.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 10/07/2023 09:24

Ask for a refund and make this point.

Especially if it sends you blood pressure up when you're supposed to be relaxing

Passmeaplacard · 10/07/2023 16:57

I posted about this company on here before when they first started on this journey with “chest feeding”. I had raised my concerns with the owner and received a barrage of abuse from her, I was a TERF etc.
I really regret ever giving them any money. They don’t respond well to refund requests just insult you.

apric0t · 15/07/2023 21:55

Complained and requested a refund early last week, so far.... crickets

AtrociousCircumstance · 16/07/2023 15:31

They had better reimburse you! The product is not fit for purpose.

ValancyRedfern · 16/07/2023 16:49

If you're looking for an alternative, I found the book 'Birth Skills'by Juju Sundin absolutely brilliant. Don't give up on hassling them for a refund.

Creepybookworm · 16/07/2023 17:14

Natal Hypnotherapy is very good and uses mother and woman.

I'm so disappointed ☹️ I've had two straightforward natural births because of these exact videos and the info in them and it's really stressed me out that if I refund I won't access this info and possibly throw my birth off? That's pretty silly I know! Are there other good online hypnobirthing courses that contain the similar info of not just the breathing practices but the info about how to wrangle the nhs too? It's honestly madness how woman are sidelined to make the less than 1% feel comfortable and included, women and mothers should not have to put up with this!!

Having given birth twice before do you think you still need this, and cannot now trust to your own experience?

Please let them know you don't approve.

The GentleBirth app, online Masterclass and content is all based in biology. There has been ongoing pressure from activists to conform and change language to remove mother and woman and include 'cis' etc but we're holding firm.

The NERVE of it, attempting to dictate to someone else's organization the kind of language they believe they 'should' use. Who the fuck do these bastards think they are?

Very inclusive, erasing any language related to women in the arena of the single most female thing one could ever do in the whole course of our lives: gestate another human and give birth.

Sorry for the crudity of my response, but it boils my piss!

I'll wear the badge with pride.

Tired of explaining reality to fuckwits? You bet I'm weary of it. Sick and tired.

Fascinating how strong the need to alter the whole world for the sake of an extremely tiny percentage of people is, even if the changes are experienced as dehumanising and/or ridiculing by many more.

It's because of that belief in women who haven't even bothered to declare special identities as the emotional and housekeeping support staff.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 25/01/2024 07:41

Well I guess the baby is born now (op?) but I’d be interested to know if she got her money back.

Of course men are going to target this area. It must be the holy grail of genrerwang.

TallMam · 14/05/2024 10:42

I didn't do my due diligence and happily bought the course pack...until I reached the first video of inclusivity. Made my hairs stand up.
Did anybody manage to get an actual refund?

egginhotwater · 14/05/2024 10:46

IsItNormalFTM · 09/07/2023 21:48

Fuck that, I’d email and ask for a refund!

Me too. Let them know.

If there are pregnant women who identify as men or non-binary, let them create their own birthing products targeted at their language needs, rather than changing all other women’s language.

mushroomushroom · 16/04/2025 09:20

Hi all,

I'm currently looking for a hypnobirthing book and am facing the same rage you all felt at the time this thread was started. I'm ordering Milli Hill's "Positive Birth Book" but would ideally also like a hynobirthing specific book, but one that won't make me angry while reading it (i.e. doesn't contain the word woman or mother or uses "birthing/gestational parent").

Does anyone have any suggestions? I was leaning towards "Practical ways to make your birth better" but just saw it's by the same woman who made the Positive Birth Company, and I don't want to give her money, nor do I think it will be any use to me at all to read a book that pisses me off.

Thanks in advance!

It’s ridiculous because as a qualified hypnotherapist i would say language and suggestion is the absolute foundation to why hypnotherapy works. And most women will not emotionally identify with the word “birthing parent”. It won’t have the same effect

Absolutely!
Birthing your baby can be a wonderful and empowering experience which only women can experience.
Why is there a need to reduce us? In the context of birth; the words woman and mother are - imo - sacred. Certainly they are the words to be used.
This birthing parent shite feels like a race to the bottom.

Ask them to send you the old versions of their course that worked so well.
Surely they'll understand that if there is jarring language in their course it's not conducive to you getting what you need from it.
