"I have no unresolved feelings over winning because that's no longer what I want. My goal was to stir controversy and get my story heard by competing," she said.

When she crossed the finish line in the women's race, she was "more relieved than triumphant," because she felt she finally made her point about male physical superiority and gender inclusion in sports. At the same time, Na felt sorry for the female cyclists who competed against her and offered them an energy drink as a kind of apology during the race.

"I am not honored. I am not proud of myself at all. I believe other transgender athletes would feel the same way. They may not want to admit it, but they're being selfish. There is no honor as an athlete in that," she said, referring to international transgender athletes who have sparked heated debate about the fairness of their competing against biological women after transitioning"

Good for her! It's great to see the unfairness called out by a TW.

Cheezecake · 08/07/2023 20:07

Has he given back the prize though?

SirChenjins · 08/07/2023 20:08

Good for him for being honest - more men need to step up and admit this.

SirChenjins · 08/07/2023 20:09

Good point about the prize - and hopefully he asked for his time to be disregarded?

Froodwithatowel · 08/07/2023 20:11

Good for him.

"Na chose to forgo her qualification for the National Sports Festival, prioritizing fairness above everything else.

"I don't want to make an issue to the point where I harm other people," she said, explaining that the provincial race was appropriate for her to compete in because it wasn't a professional competition, where she could damage female athletes' careers by winning."

Seems fair enough

Interesting…I used to live in south Korea. They have very strong views on fairness

Yes, that’s as fair as it can be given the circumstances.

‘She’ didn’t do anything though - he did.

CandyLeBonBon · 08/07/2023 21:57

Interesting. I wonder how this will be viewed by the 'community' - excommunication and cries of bigotry, no doubt.

Backstreets · 08/07/2023 22:16

Seems to be more a demonstration for third spaces than against male inclusion in the female category. At least the women used as props this time were chosen mindfully and got energy drinks?

Think I preferred the big lad who said “I’m a woman today” and walked in to absolutely wreck the tw champion’s women’s weight lifting records right in front of him.

Pudmyboy · 08/07/2023 23:38

Interesting, very glad that he spoke out so well on this, highlighting the unfairness, along with the unrepentantly male 'I'm a female ' weight lifter who took the weightlifting top spot off a trans lifter as mentioned by backstreets
Good to see men speaking out, who knows, maybe they will be listened to!

ScrollingLeaves · 09/07/2023 00:51

It is good they brought up the concept of honour.

Where has it been recently?

Tbf that's what needs to happen: that the top male athletes walk in, identify and prove that these male people could not hope to compete successfully in their own sex category; they are only outstanding when matched against women.

And no amount of repeating mantras makes that reality go away.
