Men aren't stronger and faster than women

Gender critical people are stopping women from succeeding in sport by reinforcing the sexist stereotype that women and girls are slower and weaker than men. Apparently.
I know the Guardian are very biased on Trans issues. But this article has really shocked me. How can they publish something like this and still call themselves a quality newspaper? Or even a "news"paper?
Favourite quote: "Their strategy also tries to limit our athletic success and opportunities by reinforcing sexist notions of cisgender girls and women as the “weaker, slower sex”. This cisgender men began segregating sports by sex initially."

Now more than ever, cis female athletes must show solidarity with trans athletes (msn.com)

Sadly I know a man who seems sensible and is a retired science teacher but who firmly believes what the Guardian tell him about gender crap.

I'm not clicking on the link, sorry OP.

Guardian readers in particular seem really invested in their identity being tied up in believing what the Guardian tells them to. Being ' a Guardian reader' seems to be core part of their sense of self. This appears true across age groups.

Fizbosshoes · 07/07/2023 15:50

I literally can't understand why anyone with any intelligence would believe that? I mean why even have separate sports for men and women if there's no difference?

StormShadow · 07/07/2023 15:51

Blimey that is a festering turd of an article.

Well given that the Guardian has purged the likes of Moore, Bindel and Freeman from their ranks in favour of Owen Jones it is even more of an echo chamber then before.

Countdowntowinter · 07/07/2023 16:00

There was a trans athlete who said women just need to try harder!

The bloke with the dangly earrings that won the cycle race came up with a list of reasons why he won. He won by a long way. The one reason he forgot off his list was his biological male advantage. The bloke was so deluded and pleased with himself for beating women - he's just a cheat.

StormShadow · 07/07/2023 16:01

I particularly like the 'we cis white women athletes' bit, so she can just entirely ignore and erase the black women who also think she's full of shit.

Countdowntowinter · 07/07/2023 16:02

The Guardian is a festering turd of virtue signalling wokeness. They all try to outdo themselves with their pandering to trans men (in the main), asexuals and any others in the alphabet soup that they feel will score them woke points.

Apparently so. "...former Division I swimmer, former club swim coach, and current historian and activist".

Yet she seems to have learned nothing from this, except that "cis" men in sports can be abusive to women.

This is a good quote, that I don't think needs any further comment from me...

"Transgender athletes are not sexually endangering us in the locker room. Rather, it was cisgender reporters who spied on trans female swimmer Lia Thomas, behaving as Peeping Toms per sports journalist Karleigh Chardonnay Webb. One teammate anonymously shared Thomas’s locker room habits with the Daily Mail. Their obsession with Thomas’s body betrayed a horrific exoticization of trans people’s bodies. Talk about possible sexual harassment and trauma."

Good lord. The person has clearly lost some marbles.

I’m terrible at finding links, but there was a thread recently with a video from a hearing in the US where an absolute muppet declared you couldn’t possibly assert that men in general are stronger and faster than women. Riley Gaines was there, and had a great comment, but the best was the response from the chair who in effect said that since this woman could lie about the difference in men and women in sports, it was difficult to take anything she said seriously. Shall dig for link

fireflyloo · 07/07/2023 16:15

I'm half way through Sharron Davis book and it's fascinating. The guardian reporters need to have a read.

SerendipityJane · 07/07/2023 16:22

This is where ignorance about statistics gets you. Brexit and gender bollocks.

The only real fact you can take to the bank is that the average male is stronger (etc, etc) than they average female. And that's about that. You could descend into detail about what %age of men are stronger (etc, etc) than women. But that's really about it.

zanahoria · 07/07/2023 16:26

"Although much of their outrage is directed at the few examples of elite transgender athletes like Lia Thomas, children are the biggest group impacted by these laws. Sydney Bauer reported how the number of transgender children in school sports can’t be larger than 100. The GOP is using sporting exclusion as an entry point to gain support for their proto-genocidal assault to eliminate trans people"

So the pity party has now extended to claiming genocide

The Guardian should be really ashamed of this

There is a big difference between not being allowed to cheat at sport and genocide and anyone who does not know it should not be given a platform in a newsaper

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 07/07/2023 16:29

I haven’t read the article, I’ll stick with Sharron Davies’ book, it’s excellent so far.

Surely then, if men and women are no different, the idea that only women can bear children is simply women trying to limit men. Gay men should shake off the shackles of cis-matriarchy and start having their own babies instead of kowtowing to cis-hetero-normativity and using surrogate women...

Shush don't talk sense like that.

Last week I ran my local parkrun and was about 70th overall, and 8th female.

But yeah, women are just as good as men.

I saw this story on Twitter just now which I thought was funny: https://t.co/3COaka3Ni1

I bet a male category is magically added to the competition now.

Society (men) says Stronger is Better; because men are stronger then men are better is what they think.

Which makes zero sense as chimps are stronger than men so are men saying chimps are superior?

So women are in mens eyes inferior because they are not strong enough (but yet will get blamed for not fighting off a rapist)

So men are full of 💩

RobertsRadio · 07/07/2023 16:56

Let's just ignore science and World Records. They are getting really desperate now.

willWillSmithsmith · 07/07/2023 17:01

Women tend to be mentally stronger (imho) and men physically. Yes you get physically strong and fast women but generally speaking I doubt any woman (who hasn’t taken performance enhancing drugs) is going to beat Usain Bolt’s records or Roger Federer at his peak. My son was stronger than me by the time he was about thirteen.

Etoile41 · 07/07/2023 17:03

I'm not bothering with opening the link.
Generally men are physically stronger and faster than women. It is of course a generalisation and there will be some women who are stronger and faster than some men.
It is simply biology. Men have more testosterone and more muscle. It's a fact.
Funny that you don't have trans men wanting to compete alongside men.

And that's a thing mums viscerally feel the reality of.

If you want to get really annoyed listen to these senate hearings from the other week.

s

Wow! Poor Miss Robinson. “Trans-women are women.” How much of her inability to articulate is bound up in fear of being thought “trans-exclusive”?

Like all those young women on that US discussion group with (I think) Matt Walsh, where only one of the seven women DARED to answer the question “What is a woman?” and all the others were tongue-tied, with a couple not even ENGAGING with the question, saying they didn’t feel right answering it. Because they’re scared of the backlash!

Sex matters, and so does language.

Is this more 'women need to try harder' bullshit?

Well that and all other kinds of bullshit thrown on too including twaddle about a genocide against transpeople.

Quite simply, the worst people of crap I ever seen on the Guardian.

Exactly.
biological women are disadvantaged in both cases. TW are allowed in women's categories because #bekind inclusive etc

...but no men are in danger of a transman (aka a woman) challenging them at the top level of any sports.
...And this is another reason why the "it's only testosterone levels" argument doesn't work. Because transmen might have suitable testosterone levels...but they don't have all the other physiological advantages of male puberty.
