Legal win - Christian Governor reinstated after questioning schools gender policy

Not seen any coverage of this win yesterday a Christian woman school governor dismissed after questioning gender ideology lesson plans in Gateshead in 2022, including the notorious gingerbread "person", has won their legal case and has been reinstated. Full details:
https://www.christian.org.uk/press_release/high-court-reinstates-christian-governor-dismissed-for-questioning-schools-sex-ed-policy/

This case looks to have important legal implications for any governor or parent wanting to challenge school lesson plans. It is more proof gender critical people are legally in the right and we just need to be ready to stand up for truth.

High Court reinstates Christian governor dismissed for questioning school's sex ed policy

A Christian parent governor, dismissed for raising concerns with the trans-affirming sex ed policy at her children’s primary school, has been reinstated by the High Court.

Good, good.

As a governor and TERF, thanks for sharing :)

Oh fabulous!

It's unbelievable that (mainly but not solely) women are having to use the courts to challenge institutions that openly flout safeguarding and allow dubious beliefs to be sold to young children as factual.
Shameful that it's a school and an LA who are meant to be at the forefront of protecting children from political gaslighting by queer theory & other political activists masquerading as educators.

Ofcourseshecan · 06/07/2023 14:55

Thanks, Daily Mail (words I thought I’d never say, up till recently).

Thanks for reporting the case, and for this beautifully correct description of gender ideology:
the idea that being a man or a woman is determined by personality and hobbies rather than biology.

dimorphism · 06/07/2023 15:06

Well thank goodness. Well done Susan (not her real name) whoever you really are. It is immensely hard in the current climate to be the kind of person who stands up when all around are bowing down to a toxic ideology that is harming children.

It must have been immensely stressful, especially when the LA and other governors showed themselves to be so captured they wouldn't even consider if the genderbread person was in the childrens best interests (which IMO it quite clearly is not especially for PRIMARY aged children - entirely age inappropriate and confusing - and has some disturbing safeguarding implications).

It's as if all the other governors / LA officials haven't read KCSIE which they are legally obligated to do.

dimorphism · 06/07/2023 15:07

I'd like to think there were some consequences for their illegal actions. But I bet there won't be.

I hope Susan goes on to become a chair of governors. We need principled people like her or we'll be teaching that the earth is flat in primary schools before long.

Imnobody4 · 06/07/2023 15:34

Good news, pleased for Susan - it must have been incredibly stressful

LonginesPrime · 06/07/2023 15:38

It must have been immensely stressful,

Yes, and also it being at her own DC's school - so it's like "you're fired for being a bigot, but see you tomorrow at drop-off".

Awful situation - I'm in awe of her for fighting this and for having the guts to go back in to her governing role - nerves of bloody steel!

ScrollingLeaves · 06/07/2023 15:43

Very good.
But the RSE policy she tried to contest us still in place unfortunately.

Yet more evidence that this false, dangerous gender identity teaching is actually going on

IcakethereforeIam · 06/07/2023 15:52

This is excellent news. I don't think I knew about this one.

Pretty awful that Keegan's DfE haven't pulled their finger out for a year on this. So children, presumably have been harmed and confused for a whole year.

Keegan is so utterly useless, why is she still in post? It's not actually ok to be waffly and vague to the point of children being harmed. She's only interested in keeping her job and not pissing any adults off. This is anti safeguarding. I'm so cross about it and cross that Sunak hasn't sacked her and put Cates in her place.

dimorphism · 06/07/2023 16:22

And I think it's a bit of a shame that this brave woman's religion is constantly mentioned as I think her objections could and would be made by any Governor who took their job of scrutinising the school's actions seriously and was interested in science and facts. Religion isn't the objection to the RSE lessons, unscientific ideology framed as fact, legality and appropriateness is. I suppose she was supported financially by the Christian Institute, which is why there is a focus on her religion, but it's much more than that.

I'm not religious and I'd have exactly the same concerns.

To be fair to her, she's the 10th incumbent. I have heard that Nadhim Zahawi "got it" and was starting to make progress but since his departure in July 2022 the subsequent four! appointees in the last year (Donelan, Cleverley, Malthouse & now Keegan) have of course completely failed to get to grips with anything.

Such an unacceptable shambles with this government being completely responsible for encouraging schools to undermine their political impartiality role and sign up to queer theory activist groups. No matter how desperate I am about women's rights and child safeguarding, the idea of this shower holding responsibility for any longer than necessary is terrifying.

dimorphism · 06/07/2023 17:03

I simply DO NOT understand why Cates isn't in this job. She used to be a Science teacher! She understands safeguarding. Her performance in committees and the chamber is impressive - she has facts at her fingertips and asks good questions. She'd be great on safeguarding but probably better on all the other policy areas in education too, with relevant experience.

Maybe she doesn't want it?

SinnerBoy · 06/07/2023 17:26

Am I wrong in thinking that the Genderbread nonsense was supposed to have been scrapped?

Anyway, I'm mightily pleased that she has won this and sympathise with her for all the stress and worry, which the school chose to subject her to.

True, but is noticeable that SOME religious people are ready to take action and I think it is right to take account of it. What is clear though is she framed her objections in purely secular terms she wasn't demanding they follow the Bible etc. Many religious people are sitting this out as well. At the end of the day the sad thing is most people, religious or not, might question this stuff quietly but only a brave few take action.

Susan's action has not aroused the same level of interest as other cases which is interesting given that it clearly could have a very significant impact.
