Interesting article in the express about the "gender " (sex) health gap and the fact that using trans approved language is increasing it.

This bit made me chuckle

It's not an article, it's a comment piece, and it's not a fact, it's an opinion.

Although I would be interested to see how the impact of "neutral" language affects women's access to medical care (because I imagine it is detrimental) I will wait until someone has actually looked into it.

Not to be accused of condescension by pointing out the obvious, but there's nothing in that opinion piece connecting the thing that we all agree is bad (the fact that medicine for thousands of years has largely privileged male perspectives and male bodies) with the thing that the author is most keen to complain about (their strawman version of trans-inclusive language). I was gearing up for a bit of debunking, but unfortunately there's nothing I can get my teeth into :( It does just feel a bit like the author wanted to talk about a few disparate trans-related things that happened in the last week or two and was struggling for a through-line.

I agree with @Flickersy that there's a potentially interesting article/study with regard to how inclusive language helps/hinders access to public healthcare services, but this ain't it.

There is plenty of research that shows women's pain is repeatedly under treated, and under diagnosed. I'm a HCW- it's a sad truth. Man comes to hospital with testicular pain, they will have an ultrasound immediately if there is a differential diagnosis of testicular torsion. If a woman has a differential diagnosis of ovarian torsion- they ultrasound if out of hours will be the next day. Men with abdominal pain are treated quicker, and with stronger medication than women who present with the same- repeatedly. Women's health is appalling, and if it's 'just' a gynae issue it takes months for a diagnosis, and analgesia is always under given www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/interactive/2022/women-pain-gender-bias-doctors/
Yea this is a newspaper article- but cites several studies. Tell me any abdominal surgery, other than cesareans (which are brutal if you look up how they are done) the assumption is a few paracetamol will be more than adequate for all who have them 24hrs later. The terminology of women, for issues that affect women, is vital.
