I've just read Sharon Davies book 'Unfair Play' which my DC are now reading.

Are there any more recommendations for GC books which will give myself and my DC a more balanced view than the continual TWAW mantra.

I'm reading Gender Critical Feminism by Holly Lawford-Smith. I can't say much about it yet as I'm only on Chapter One but I'm enjoying her clear, no bs style so far!

Trans by Helen Joyce

Just for a bit of fun, try the satirical novel The End of the World is Flat by Simon Edge or The Echo Chamber by John Boyne.

I’ve read and recommend

Trans by Helen Joyce
Irreversible Damage by Abigail Shriner
Material Girls by Kathleen Stock

I’m currently reading,

Hags by Victoria Smith

Planning to read,

The Case Against the Sexual Revolution by Louise Perry

Feminism Against Progress by Mary Harrington

Time to Think by Hannah Barnes

Not specifically about 'gender' per se but both Invisible Women and Difficult Women are good reads.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 02/07/2023 21:30

Yes definitely Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez. It was great, really eye opening.

I haven’t read Difficult Women by Helen Lewis yet. I don’t think her thinking is quite aligned with many on this board, not that that would be a reason not to read her! I enjoy listening to her on Radio 4.

Julie Bindel: Feminism for Women. (Yes, she "goes there" over feminism being overtly appropriated by male people for male needs/wants).

Somer Broadrib: Nothing Mat[t]ers: A Feminist Critique of Postmodernism

Kara Dansky: The Abolition of Sex (short and basic, sets out a lefty hardcore feminist US perspective)

Kajsa Ekis Ekman: On the Meaning of Sex: Thoughts about the New Definition of Woman (also love her Being and Being Bought, which focuses on prostitution/sex trafficking)

Cordelia Fine: Delusions of Gender

Sheila Jeffreys: anything, but Penile Imperialism is her latest. Her autobiography My Lesbian Feminist Life is also excellent.

All the ones above which I have either read, part read or have bought to read.
Also for a bit of humour and satire anything by Titania McGrath! My 14 year old was howling with laughter and reading most of the book out to me!

Difficult Women is really good. The first chapter on divorce is a real eye opener.

Time to think by Hannah Barnes is excellent. I borrowed it from my library, and I was so tempted to underline key parts. Even though I have followed all the stuff on here about the Tavistock it was still dreadful to read the whole thing.

I second the recommendations of Julie Bindel’s Feminism for Women (I finished it last night, it’s depressing and empowering), Material Girls by Kathleen Stock, and Gender Critical Feminism by Holly Lawford-Smith. These are all great and manage to put my thoughts more eloquently than I can myself.

Also, a classic, Germaine Greer’s The Female Eunuch. It started my radical feminist trajectory.
