Kirra Longboard Competition

Has anyone read about the Kirra Longboard competition in Australia?
They had one division, with a prize of $5,500, which every year is dominated by men, so they were asked for a women's division. Organisers said that it's an open division which women were free to enter.
So.....there were 16 places and women signed up as soon as it was open, and got all 16 places. (They first got 15, but the lone male entrant said he wouldn't stand in their way, and withdrew).
Well this didn't please the organisers, who then said, that even though it's an open competition, that women just aren't very good, and can't surf as well as men. Ironically, this is backing up the whole point of two competitions.
After a lot of publicity, the competition has just created a women's division, with equal prize money of $5,500.
Well done to those women!

Well done them, nice to have some positive news for women's sport! (I just hope they will keep it ONLY for women!)

its all fair competition until men get the shitty end of the stick, isn’t it?!

That's a nice new competition for this woman to enter. She seems to be surprisingly successful considering she's 44.

Of all the transwoman athletes I have read about, Sasha is the only one who was actually a champion as a man. So its more difficult to say if they're winning because they're a good surfer or because they've transitioned. (Just want to be fair)

I actually find that really awful. So a surfing competition is open to everyone, unless it's just women. Then it's shit and the women need to be relegated back to the second division. I'm surprised they moved over - I would have insisted on the competition being run with the 16 women. Australia is sexist as fuck.
