Am I just naive or plain stupid? But reading these parent's/carer's requests for binders for their girls makes me shudder. This is child abuse in plain sight. I just needed to vent I'm sorry if this is upsetting. That is all.

Unfortunately binders are becoming very popular among teenage girls. If they had to exist, I would prefer they were done by a proper company and made properly rather than girls getting anything and doing further damage long term.

No it’s not ideal, and no the parents shouldn’t be encouraging it, but it’s either something like this, or something such as a girl getting bandages and doing them so tight she cracks a rib.

Just because you won’t buy them, won’t stop her from getting one from somewhere.

That made me feel a bit sick. Fuck these fucking handmaidens sacrificing their daughters.

Actually, some recent research counterintuitively found more injuries with purpose-designed binders than with improvised ones. (Alhough suggested that in some cases this might be down to 'proper' binders not being properly worn - too small, or layered up.)

Isn't 'safe' and 'comfy sizing' completely diametrically opposite to the whole premise of a binder? I mean - surely something that flattens your chest to hide the fact you have breast can never be either safe or comfy?

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 20/06/2023 21:10

Also "proper" companies selling them openly would just suggest that they are safe and normal to use, which they aren't! (As well as potentially giving more girls the idea of using them if they see them being advertised openly, instead of having to go looking). Totally the wrong message IMO.

Yes, this exactly. It shouldn't be perceived as a standard fashion choice for women or girls, to want to compress their breasts.

Wow those Pride bras are seriously hideous.

Maybe (and this is a stretch but we can hope) this company/parents might collude to offer a "binder" which is more akin to a sports bra and offer proper support but also draped in rainbows for the expected credentials, to keep their daughters away from the damaging ones.

"Comfy" FFS. God help Tracey and Janine's kids.

ArabeIIaScott · 20/06/2023 22:29

Ugh, Molke bras are awful. Gave me hideous headaches.

IcakethereforeIam · 20/06/2023 22:32

At least Molke said they didn't have them and had no plans. And those pride bras are vile.

I remember hearing about 'breast ironing' and apparently its really dangerous and causes all sorts of problems so why are binders ok?

They're not.
