... was yesterday. I missed it. Where there flags hoisted up all the government buildings? Did we get a parade?

From Reem Alsalem:

'On this international Day for the Elimination of #Sexual violence in conflict, we must recognize that the use of sexual violence as a tool of war continues unabated, and that efforts to end impunity for such crimes, including against women and girls continue to be grossly insufficient. The absence of fighting in itself does not equal peace, and there is no peace nor a chance at recovery of any society without holding perpetrators of violence to account, and without acknowledgement and reparations for the heinous crimes committed against half of that society. Walking the talk is terribly overdue! #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #Endrapeinwar'

Yeh. Love to know how Oxfam marked this. Oh no, I forgot, they're so down with sexual violence they join in.

including against women and girls

Jesus. including.. women and girls an also-ran in an atrocity of war that has been going on for centuries, where the VAST majority of those victimised are women and girls.

and without acknowledgement and reparations for the heinous crimes committed against half of that society

Aaahhh - so they do know, and a previous version of this paragraph knew, but they just watered it down in editing.

Still missing who's committing these crimes though - still a nebulous 'a crime has been committed' without mentioning who's doing it.

TBH that might be a badly phrased or translated sentence, SunThrough. This was posted by the UN Special Rapporteur on VAWG - she is very focussed on women and girls.

Its because it isn't just used against women and girls (though in most conflicts they make up the majority of the victims). But Alsalem is primarily concerned with women and girls because of her remit. So the wording makes sense to me.
