Cos here it is.

Janelle Monaé's sensuous new album fights back at anti-LGBTQ laws www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-65844245

Best I can work out from the drivel, she's a woman who enjoys sex and who may be bisexual.

James/Lisa can’t make up their mind. They seem quite troubled.

*For the record, I have formally renounced my previous ties and allegiance to radical and gender-critical feminists, conservatives, and faith-based groups." Shortly after in 2022, she received a legal name change to "Elisa Rae Shupe". In March 2023, Shupe leaked over 2600 pages of emails, spanning a period from 2017 to 2023, between her and a group of what Mother Jones calls "representatives of a network of activists and organizations at the forefront of the anti-trans movement".

Oh dear, you may be right - he's gone back down the rabbit hole.

Which is annoying, because in that interview he's quite open about the fact that he's autogynephilic and it's all sexually motivated. He even states towards the end that trans itself is all a sham, although he is obviously speaking from personal experience, but some of the comments underneath the video from de-transitioners back this up.

ArabeIIaScott · 10/06/2023 17:11

The other thing about Monae is that this is completely standard libfem stuff. Liberation through sexy.

Nothing more than that.

aweegc · 10/06/2023 18:05

Of course she's NB. Of course. Cos then you can wear whatever the Eff you like AND get virtue signalling points.

Which is a shame really because how nice would it be to have a strong woman, black too, being bisexual and proud? Or even lesbian and proud? And by proud, I mean out, and just making good music, without focussing on her identity, other than for publicity shots - the underlying intentions of which we are left to guess?

But no, the men running the music industry (and it is primarily men) let the artists waffle in about gender ID and then arrange shoots where they're hypersexualised, instead of ultrasexualised (aka Pussy Cat Dolls).

Which makes me wonder why there's not yet a "they band"...

I've just read a Beeb article about 'woman of the year' awards (never knew there was such a thing) and came across a photo of Janelle at the awards with the caption "Grammy-nominated singer Janelle Monae said she was honoured to receive the musician award as a non-binary person"

How can a non-binary person receive/accept an award for a woman? Sorry if I come across thick but genuine question as I'm a bit confused because I thought a non-binary person believed that they were neither male or female?

Feckedupbundle · 08/11/2023 08:58

Hurrah! I didn't know about the suits thing. I'm non binary now as I'm wearing men's work trousers AND no make up. That means that I'm super special and you've all got to give me lots of attention. I am now not a fairly ordinary middle aged woman, but a queer freedom fighter!
Who knew it could be so easy,eh?

"She"? Is the BBC misgendering Janelle or does its "reporter" just not believe the artiste is genuinely NB?

My quotes included the actual caption at the bottom of the photo that they'd used on their piece. So not sure if it's the Beeb mis-gendering or the reporter not believing the person to be NB?

Aposterhasnoname · 08/11/2023 09:05

Monaé, who identifies as non-binary,

Yet they use she/her throughout. Make it make sense.

HagoftheNorth · 08/11/2023 09:14

Didn’t read the article, but saw the photos - not playing up to gender stereotypes at all then JM?! Definitely just a case of LOOK AT ME, I’M SPESSSSHUL,

Projectme · 08/11/2023 10:02

I still don't understand how a 'non-binary person' can be voted/accept an award for a 'Woman of the Year' award? HOW?!!?!? If JM is NB then surely they wouldn't have wanted to have anything to do with a 'Woman of the Year' award? I just don't get it. I feel old... Confused

Datun · 08/11/2023 10:14

She is non-binary and the BBC, woke as fuck, managed to misgender her throughout their entire article.

After a little light Googling I have found that Janelle uses both 'they' and 'she'.

Or did when thd various stories were published, latest June 2023.
