What is the consensus on the correct/best pride flag for those who are gender critical?

Hating Pride is nothing to boast of.

Do some thinking about why some homosexuals have reached that point.

Blind support for Homophobia And Misogyny and Exclusion/Death Threats With Flags is nothing to boast of either.

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/05/2023 17:08

@Manichean you're referring to a lesbian who has become totally disillusioned with Pride to the point of not wanting anything to do with it. Maybe have a think about that rather than jump in with criticism and an attempt to shame her.

The 'cis' flag is easy, it'd just be white

Well thought, Cake.

Hating Pride is nothing to boast of.

‘Of the seven deadly sins, theologians and philosophers reserve a special place for Pride. Lust, envy, anger, greed, gluttony and sloth are all bad, the sages say, but pride is the deadliest of all, the root of all evil, and the beginning of sin.’

Isn't this flag business part of the problem?

Definitely this!

I associate flags with things which feel dangerous to me nationalism, militarism, fascism, factions, wars and violence. To me it is more evidence of the modern trend to divide people up into manufactured “tribes” in order to sell them stuff or set them up against each other and distract them from what the billionaires running the show are up to.

No thanks, no flags for me. They are absolutely part of the problem in my opinion.

QueenHippolyta · 25/05/2023 17:57

Before the Trans takeover of society and institutions, I was just a regular normal person who happens to be same-sex attracted.

Now, I really don't want to be associated in any way with this misogynistic homophobic shitshow that's LBTQIA+

I don’t want to surrender….

Google translate gives me as ‘protect women’s lives’ from ‘mulierum iera custodi’
I like that.

PurpleBugz · 25/05/2023 18:05

I posted them got busy so couldn't respond. Catching up has been enlightening.

Seems the general consensus is don't get a flag. Although I do like the idea of cutting the triangle off the current flag but think hanging that in the window would be provocative and perhaps not 'kind'

Showing my age, but the pride flag always reminded me of C&A

Hmm I have a Classics degree but we didn't do composition but I think it should be:
Custodite salum muliebrem

Protect (imperative) women's health/welfare/life (salus)

It says "Romans go home"!

No it doesn't....etc.

indeed

people who love flags are weird

it's pretty 'jingoism adjacent'

OldGardinia · 25/05/2023 20:07

I get all the people saying they dislike flags in general. But fighting the war on the symbolic front can be very effective. I'd propose a rainbow with one colour missing to convey "we're inclusive, just not without boundaries" whilst retaining the LGB connection. I just can't see which colour would be a suitable and reliable stand in for trans and queer.

So not that, but something that doesn't give up the LGB representation - which I think is fine. Slapping the letters "GC" or some picture on front complicates it and isn't something that would be persistent. It needs to be a basic and simple alteration to the rainbow flag.

Maybe even just the rainbow flag with a man and woman on it in silhouette or the sex symbols. Hmmm...

I was going for 'rights' (iura) rather than 'lives'.

But my Latin is sub-GCSE and exceedingly rusty, so not was a Google translate job. Any improvements by people who actually know the language welcome. Sales also works as a similar concept, and probably less prone to confusion with similar words.

Someone on Ovarit invented this hideous "transtrans" flag for women who identify as men who identify as women.

I think it takes the piss out of the whole phenomenon beautifully, so I'd nominate this as a GC flag if we had to have one.

oh the preview is very low res! the actual flag is ugly but not quite THAT ugly.

OldGardinia · 25/05/2023 20:28

Kind of garish. Needs workshopping. Don't like it, just trying to find a clear way of preserving sexual identity without throwing out the lgb aspects.

lanadelgrey · 25/05/2023 20:28

I always wonder if the wavers of flags ever notice where they are made? Inevitably China, who ironically did good business from sudden surge in demand for Ukrainian flags. Also all viscose which is incredibly polluting to make

OldGardinia · 25/05/2023 20:30

Flags aside, just aggressive pushing of LGB without the TQOMGBBQ extensions would be good. If someone interprets it as LGBTQ, clearly correct them that 'no, I just meant LGB'.

PurpleBugz · 25/05/2023 20:32

Atishoos · 25/05/2023 16:20

Pride in what please?

I guess I'm asking because I want to support LGB and acknowledge it as separate without the TQ+.

But your question makes me realise pride is another word with uncertainty in the definition

'Salus' not 'sales'. My autocorrect knows even less Latin than I do.

I think I've just found my new authentic inner identity.

Does that mean I can join the special people now?
