Sad to hear of her death yesterday.

Article here gives a bit of background on the impact of her talking about dv openly.

How Tina Turner 'broke the silence' on domestic abuse

The singer's decision to reveal the details of her violent marriage still helps inspire other women.

Yeah, she spoke about the violence in a brave and open way. I admired her a lot. I think she was the first person I ever heard talking about the issue- a long time ago now.

I loved her. In her recent documentary she was open about both the toll it took to speak openly about it all, and the way the abuse reverberated throughout her life, long after she'd got away from that horrible man. She was bloody tough and resilient, and a real musical icon. Sounds funny to say about someone so successful and beloved, but she deserved so much better.

What an amazing strong woman to not only have got out, but to have spoken out in that era.

She led such an extraordinary complex life, with such dignity. I feel as if most of the tributes have been loving and respectful.

Tina is kind of my hero for this.
(And proud Mary.)

I grew up riddled with shame because my mother and I were DV victims and nobody I knew realised it.
I say this regularly but growing up with DA/DV is like growing up in a cult, you don't realise how fucked up it is until you're out.

I remember early 20s reading about her struggles and just her openness about it really helped me.
If queen Tina could find herself with an abusive partner, it could be any of us.

I hope she knew what she meant to women, not just as a musical icon with tremendous legs, but as a survivor.

Dearly missed woman already 💔

Very sad hearing of her death. She went through so much and it never left her not truly. I hope she's now free and finally at peace . 😔

A truly amazing women who was unapologetically herself.

Her words : As a woman who showed other women that it is OK to strive for success on their own terms.' Perfect.

I read her book when I was 12, in a caravan in North Wales. It changed my life and gave me words to describe things that happened at home. She was a goddess and utterly inspirational.

I wrote on a post the other day about not really caring about the worlds of celebrities and being effected by their deaths. I needed to correct that now as Tina was an absolute hero in my house. All my children have been rocking to her since they were in the womb and I’ve talked about what an amazing woman she was regularly to my DDs who all love her too.

I honestly think her going public about the violence she suffered made a huge impact on changes we’ve seen in society in not turning a blind eye, ignoring DV. Of course we still have a long way to go but people have changed a lot from when I was a child.

Loved Tina Turner. Rest in peace Queen. ❤️

It was actually the film, What's love got to do with it, that brought her life story to my attention. My housemate's mum bought it for us on VHS and it was on repeat in our student house. She was a big hero of my housemate's mum, who had her own struggles in life. Looking back I like to think that gift of a film was a way of pal's mum passing those messages down to us all. Me and pal were messaging last night, talking about pal's mum, she would have been gutted by Tina's death.
