On the BBC app you can choose selections for easy access such as Technology, Health, Scotland, Women’s Rights, LGBT… The article on the complaints about Kishwer Falkner appears under LGBT but not Women’s Rights. It is written by the “LGBT & identity correspondent”.

This is bias.

It’s is the BBC. They hate women.

Complain?

Yes, I will be complaining as one of the things the BBC is meant to do is inform without bias.

Kishwer Falkner is trying to do her job properly and work for equity for all. She is trying to get all protected characteristics given due consideration and care.

Instead of reporting this and acknowledging women’s needs or those of people of faith, the only report from the BBC dwells on transphobia allegations.

The BBC’s Women’s Rights section is tumble weed. Nothing happens there for months and then it’s in other countries.

Much (all) of their recent reporting has this bias. There is a lot of space given to LGBT pages which call out the (mainly religiously driven) conversative US view that "gay and trans" is bad. This seems to be ramping up in advance of the parliamentary debate on 12th June.

Yet there is no attempt to unpick the viewpoint that the majority of the UK concern includes the impact of the current interpretation of the Equality Act on gay people. Also on trans people, for example making sure that trans men are entitled to the same maternity rights as other biological women, should they have a baby. This is very different from the US political right.

Also complete silence from the BBC now on issues relating to the dangers of misunderstanding the Equality Act in schools (leading to schools socially transitioning children by using new pronouns and names, without parents' knowledge) and signposting towards advice from Childline, which includes access to forums where children are sharing tips on how to get cross sex hormones without their parents' knowledge.

The level of bias and the rate at which it is coming out is off the scale. It is creating a very one sided story, which leads to a "logical conclusion" that any clarification of the protected characteristic of sex in the Equality Act will lead to more harm than good.

This needs calling out to editorial standards, Ofcom and the BBC Chief Executive.

Unfortunately I dont think most of th MSM reports on this have indicated that this is a women's rights issue. It is reported as about trans rights and gender non conforming.

This is amplified by the media who are looking at any issue as a way of saying the Tories are reactionary, etc., etc..

And must as mumsnet, LWS and many others have raised the issue as being about women's rights, left to their own news outlets still think it is about trans / gay rights.

Much as the reporting on drag queens is reported.

Women's voices and women's issues just dont impinge on the news reporters consciousness.

So yes, we are left with having to complain.

Maybe one day the news media will finally accept that women have rights and a view point.

(And in fact many lesbians and gay men have a viewpoint that is not represented by Stonewall.)
