Panorama — have they/could they investigate?

I know there is a thread about Monday night’s Panorama investigation already but it seems to have developed (not surprisingly) as a discussion about ADHD.
I would like to ask another question: does anyone know if Panorama has done a similar investigation into diagnoses of gender dysphoria?
(for this who aren’t aware, the show about the apparent ease of getting diagnosed with ADHD through private clinics, with scant assessment.)
i jotted down some quotes from the show and thought how helpful it could be for a reporter to say exactly the same but substitute “gender dysphoria” for ADHD and “hormones” for “powerful drugs”.

“ This is an investigation that reveals a health scandal. It starts with an email to Panorama from a worried mom. Her 21 y.o. daughter has just been diagnosed with ADHD. The woman says her daughter couldn’t get an appt on NHS so she paid to go to a private clinic. The clinic diagnosed her with ADHD after a 45” chat on line and she has been prescribed powerful drugs.”

“Many are taking on-line tests to see if they have the condition.” (Proceeds to take on-line quiz which, unsurprisingly, revealed him to have ADHD.)

“Support groups say ADHD has long been under diagnosed. Now there is a big rise in adults asking to be assessed.”

“We have spoken with patients and former employees of private clinics and have been told that almost everyone who goes to a private clinic ends up with a diagnosis of ADHD”

That’s probably because you are pretty sure you have it before you fork out to go to a private clinic to get a diagnosis.

Well there have been many flags raised and highlighted about how balanced the episode was, and how ethical the journalist was in researching the show. There's evidence he managed to infiltrate an ADHD fb group for women (which I'm also a part of) and misrepresent himself to certain members via PM to get information about their experiences.

So, I don't know about what you're suggesting, but the episode isn't what I'd use as an example about what to tie trying to show.

Or you want to have it. Look how popular gluten intolerance is.

But the point in the programme was that some of same people would most likely get a different diagnosis of they were assessed by the NHS using a more detailed and nuanced diagnostic method, which takes a considerably longer time and looks at all the differentials in any given person’s symptoms.

With gender dysphoria in a young person, it is again taking enough time and looking at all the differentials - as opposed to immediately affirming they are trans on the basis of their self-diagnosis - which matters. Are they struggling with autism? Past abuse or trauma? Internalised homophobia or bullying for homosexuality? A worrying family illness or bereavement?

Are there unscrupulous private gender clinics though? If not I’m quite surprised that that gap in the market hasn’t been filled actually. To be fair there was a very detailed podcast on the bbc about the Tavistock and all the problems there.

Panarama is a pile of shite and would probably not do the gender critical argument any good whatsoever.

It should be taken off air imho.

I don’t know if there are unscrupulous private clinics but I am sure there are psychologists/other mental health professionals (probably well-meaning) who are very quick to “affirm” without pursuing thorough assessment.

Yes, well according to most on MN no psychiatrist would ever wrongly diagnose someone based shaky diagnostic criteria and a collection of feels, except when the disorder in question is gender dysphoria. Those people probably all have ASD and are just being wrongly diagnosed.

Google GenderGP and the name Webberly.

You also might want to look at the interim Cass report and come to your own conclusions about how ethical the NHS GIDS provision has been (irrespective of financial incentive, but in pursuing poorly evidenced life changing medical interventions on children with poor follow up on long term outcomes).

I don’t know why anyone would want to have it, or the medications. They’re brutal. I had to stop taking them because the side effects were even worse than having unmedicated ADHD.
