A few days ago, i was strolling through twitter, as you do, when i came across a tweet she'd sent.

I'll write it out in case the link doesn't work.
The tweet is dated 10th May 23, at 9:20.

" There's the epidemic of tutoring, a ££££ industry, and the performance enhancing drug, in many cases. that is ADHD medication, with no thought to the long term implications of a child to believe they can't function effectively without a pill. "

Seriously, is she for real?!

Any road up... she makes me shake my head a lot!

Apparently Ritalin is being used by people without ADHD to boost their concentration etc. Is that what she's talking about? I had no idea about it before googling tbh.

Is she saying rich parents are buying their kids tutoring and meds to get the top grades? Maybe it something that's going on in her very rich circles or something.

I assume it's that and not that kids with ADHD are getting some kind of unfair advantage with their medication.

Missingmyusername · 16/05/2023 21:24

Heard something on the radio the other day about private clinics misdiagnosing ADHD and prescribing medication to people who don’t have it. Presumably she’s referring to this…

EpicChaos · 17/05/2023 00:21

Yeah, @Missingmyusername @Superdupes @WallaceinAnderland i fairly much gathered that she was talking about ADHD, Ritalin, etc., That's a whole conversation on it's own, that i very much doubt that Allsopp has any great knowledge of.
My point is, that she seems against the use of one sort of, non addictive tablet
( Ritalin ) which, btw, has the opposite effect on non ADHD affected people, than it does those with ADHD and the effects wear off after 4 hours. Studies of which have been ongoing for many decades now, afaik. Adderall is a similar drug but with a longer lasting dose, 12 hours i think it is.
Whereas, she doesn't seem to be in the least bit bothered by the thought of young kids taking puberty blockers and or cross sex hormones, on what is to all intents and purposes an experimental basis, where treating kids is concerned, so it seems anyway.
Her thinking just doesn't seem to be joined up, in any way, shape, or form.
I think in future i shall just regard her as being someone out on a trolling session because she'll give me ' the rage ' otherwise!

Yes, she's just a troll.

Sorry wrong thread !

BlackeyedSusan · 18/05/2023 00:10

Yeah, I got your point.

Can't possibly medicate disabled kids with tested meds to help them function better

But it's fine to medicate other kids many also disabled with another drug not licenced and with known serious side effects.

The question is do we have medication to fix the severe eye rolling and head desk induced headache? <Weeps>

EmmelinePankhurstWeNeedYouNow · 18/05/2023 00:44

I find it best to just block her on Twitter as she has nothing of value to add to the conversation.

DemiColon · 18/05/2023 01:18

( Ritalin ) which, btw, has the opposite effect on non ADHD affected people, than it does those with ADHD

This is a myth, which used to be commonly used to try and minimize concerns about over-medicating. Ritalin works to increase concentration in people without ADHD just fine, that's why university students will buy it illegally to cram for exams.

KA hasn't loomed very large in my awareness, but back when she was being very indignant about schools suggesting World Book Day should focus on enjoying books rather than on dressing up I got the impression that she dislikes anything that encourages reading. Understandable, if her inability to do that blighted her own childhood. If she now dislikes the emphasis on exam focussed education that is consistent and understandable.

Daft and misguided, but consistent.
