Gendered Intelligence's 'Trans awareness' training (workplace)

Hi all

Does anyone know what is included in the 'Trans awareness' workplace training that is run by Gendered Intelligence? I know they are a full on gender woo outfit, but I'm keen to know whether the training is awareness based for anti-discriminatory purposes, or more of the type of flag-waving TWAW and no questions will be tolerated?

Our workplace is introducing this for line managers and I'd like to get a sense of how reasonable it is (or, I fear, isn't)

Thanks

Sorry OP - don't know anything about their trans training. They were highlighted by Hannah Barnes (in her book Time to Think, exposing the safeguarding scandal at GIDs) as having an excessive influence on the treatment offered to children there. Despite the growing evidence of the harms to a child's developing body & brain from puberty blockers, they allege that "it can be highly valuable and life affirming support". They are very keen on the idea of children being free to transition and appear to ignore the latest research and data.

Their position statement on puberty blockers is a fascinating exercise in how an adult facing organisation self identifies as being suitable to work with children by repeatedly conflating adult issues / language while discussing children. They seem to see children as mini adults failing to demonstrate any knowledge of child development, child psychology or child mental health:

If they demonstrate the same approach to training for adults, failing to balance the needs of all the protected characteristics, using Stonewall's definitions and ignoring women's rights to privacy, safety and dignity then then there'll be an issue.

Hi OP I’ve done this training recently. I’ll be able to give you some pointers once I’ve finished work today

ok, so most of the training is pretty bland and uneventful however there are three things I personally challenged the trainer on.

  1. they try to ignore the single sex exceptions in the Equality Act describing them as not important. I interrupted and politely requested the trainer covered them as they were important for out organisation.
  2. I asked the trainer about how people with learning difficulties dealt with inclusive language and what would best practice look like - the trainer said they’d forward on some guidance. Still waiting for that months later, no doubt because it doesn’t exist. Worth pulling them up on this.
  3. they reckon 1 in 100 people are intersex 🙄
  4. there’s something about indigenous trans people always existing but the trainer when asked for examples just ignored the question. Worth making them squirm by asking that question again 🤣

The idea of indigenous trans people anyways existing is so, so stupid and problematic. They go to rez schools, which can be hotbeds of misogynistic abuse, including sexual harassment of girls by male students (fun fact: one of my own deciding factors in not wanting to identify as a girl anymore), and downplay the sacredness many of us all regard as inherently female whilst denying that boys can't be included.

The whole thing is so stupid and so white, they don't even realize the complicated meaning behind the concept of Two Spirits, let alone that it's not some universal Indian thing, it's how a few plains peoples regarded gnc men.

They know they can't get away with that with adults bc we look them square and ask what family they are (who their people are) to speak for us. So sick of it, I hope they step on Legos.

Well, I've never heard anyone say anything truly evil on this board before but "I hope they step on Legos" - that's cold 🥶

But perfect! 😁

I should've put a trigger warning🤭

Premiumbondbaby · 15/05/2023 19:47

I would also be challenging the use of the word Intersex rather than DSD. Point out that people with DSD have respectfully requested that they are not part of the trans umbrella why can’t Gendered Intelligence respect that request.

they try to ignore the single sex exceptions in the Equality Act describing them as not important.

Because its so common for things that are not important to be included in legislation, like boring old unimportant women's rights.
