Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

It's now well known, @MaterDei, that an increasing number of men discover their inner womanliness when they're about to see the inside of a court room.

I've occasionally seen it called Prison Onset Gender Dysphoria.

raspberrywine · 11/05/2023 08:35

If the stats showed that most of these guys transitioned after entering the court or prison system, we could conclude most were using it as a means to gain an easier time in prison or other considerations. That tells us something about how far offenders will go, but that's about it.

Ah, but how do we know it's not a social contagion? Far fetched I know, but can we just assume it's because they want an easier time?

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 11/05/2023 08:43

@raspberrywine

I think any possible motivations for prison onset gender dysphoria could only be speculated about but social contagion is certainly one possible factor in the sense of talking to people with shared interests on the internet made be think I could be like this too...

Many people caught abusing children do want to distance themselves from the crime, it wasn't me, I wasn't being myself, etc. rhetoric can I suspect be extremely psychologically appealing in providing a justification / excuse why they're not a bad person even though they have been caught doing bad things.

which would be a case of believing it because you want to believe it I suppose.

flyingbuttress43 · 11/05/2023 15:54

If they say they are trans perhaps we should offer the necessary surgery as an act of compassion. What's not to like?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 11/05/2023 16:02

@flyingbuttress43

I am all for sex offenders being given castration as an option to reduce their sentence, I honestly don't know why it isn't done. As long as its not forced and is only optional it could legitimately work for everyone - their perverse impulses are curbed, chances of reoffending lowered and innocent people kept safe.

PatatiPatatras · 11/05/2023 16:57

Sounds like we've moved on from "my masculinity is uncontrollable - made me do it" to "my dysphoria made me do it".

Same shit, different mask.

Badgeringabout · 11/05/2023 18:05

So many of these dodgy fucking blokes aren't there?

Also this.

TheBiologyStupid · 10/05/2023 23:50

So a man who identifies as a woman before raping with "her penis" is genuinely trans, even though their behaviour couldn't possibly be that of a woman?

Legally he is. We all know he's not but must watch the police, the law courts and the media play along. TRAs fought for these rules. Now they have to face the fact that people who are unaware of the reality will
believe that trans people are predatory.

in some cases I suspect that that is precisely the appeal

PonyPatter44 · 11/05/2023 18:20

I am aware of a transwoman sex offender with learning disabilities, who was groomed into transition while they were serving a sentence in a sex offender prison. Essentially there was a large group of transwomen offenders on the same wing, who were lovely and welcoming to this person when he was in "girl mode", and completely shunned him when he presented as a man. He decided he liked being a woman better because then he had lots of friends who liked him. It's tragic, it really is.

ninetynineAu · 12/05/2023 07:56

Of course I couldn't possibly know for sure what's going on in their heads but I'm going to take a wild guess they tend to go for a full rather than partial name-change ie Choosing a completely different surname, as well as first name.

I'd also guess that by contrast with other name-changing trans-identifying people, the convicted sex offenders have a higher rate of opting for first names which could suggest either sex rather than stereotypically 'feminine' eg Lee rather than Sarah, and that they 're more motivated to seek an altered birth certificate.

In other words, I suspect convicted sex offenders may be trying to trans-wash their history, knowing that gender reassignment offers certain "privacy" protections.

ninetynineAu · 12/05/2023 08:02

Sorry, that was answering a previous poster who asked about possible motivations for offenders 'transitioning' after release from prison, rather than transing before prison, (due to rapid courtroom-onset dysphoria).

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 12/05/2023 09:09

@ninetynineAu "In other words, I suspect convicted sex offenders may be trying to trans-wash their history, knowing that gender reassignment offers certain "privacy" protections."

Yes that would provide a strong motivation and there are plenty of unisex names to choose from. Also this could stem from wanting a fresh start not 'just' a desire to reoffend with impunity. 'It's not fair I shouldn't be on the sex offenders register loads of people have done way worse things than I did' thinking iyswim.

Society has judged they should be on the sex offenders register, doesn't automatically equate to the sex offender agrees and considers this fair and reasonable. And for virtually everyone if you believe the rules are unfair and you are being treated unfairly it makes easy to justify lying or cheating to get around the 'unfair' rules.

All of which to say, if we create a loophole, they will use it.
