So many red flags - Guardian article on trans pupils

Sorry if this has already been shared, I couldn't see it anywhere.

So many red flags in the first paragraph.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/may/08/trans-pupils-put-school-policies-test-heated-debate-england

This bit also struck me:

At this school, a pupil questioning their gender will be assigned a trained mentor, who will write an LGBTQ+ profile that goes to all their teachers, detailing their chosen name and pronouns, how they would like transphobic incidents to be dealt with, and which toilets and changing rooms they will use.

First point, girls need to be safeguarded or at the very least consulted if male pupils are planning to use their toilets and changing rooms.

Second point, coming out as a lesbian is awkward. People are homophobic. Admitting you fancy other girls is embarrassing. Same sex attraction is seen as bigoted and exclusionary. Surely this article is demonstrating how being gender questioning is more tempting for teenagers these days than coming out as a lesbian?

My God, give people a spade, and they'll keep digging. More like a shovel or earth boring device now.

The scary bit for me is this quote by the interviewed teacher (bold my own): “We have a number that are fully out with their parents and out with their friends. We also have a number of students that come to [the] club for support because they’re out at school, but they’re not out at home.”

If this is supposedly not a social contagion, how on Earth are there more than 1 or 2 in each of the 2 examples that the teacher gives? And I’m sorry, but they really shouldn’t have somebody so unbiased running that club.

Thanks for sharing the other thread RoyalCorgi will have a read through now.

Interesting the OP thought the article was balanced as I definitely thought it was biased.

I suspect that in contrast to the normal bias at the Grauniad this at least gave the impression of covering a number of angles. Sadly they uncritically showcased as a role model, a teacher and school advocating transitioning children in secret from their parents

Bloody awful from the Guardian.

Thanks OP for this thread, even if it gets no more comments because of the earlier on, as it means when google does a search your correct analysis will come up!

I think even allowing for it being better than most Guardian articles, it wasn't balanced. So it should still have been called out.

There was no coverage of when or how schools first started doing this "acceptance".

The damage this approach has done, and no doubt helped the social contagion, needs to be recognised.

Perhaps not in quite the same way as the Tavistock investigation, someone should investigate how any school ever thought they should act as they have done, and gone behind the back of parents.

If schools will do this for what is primarily a trend among young people, what else would they sanction.

Just a timely reminder for anyone who thought all of this trans infiltration is only recent, clearly the foundations for this passive acquiescence to what was and still is an unproven approach, has been going on for years.
