Trans man is surprised to find that after transitioning has "gained privilege" and is treated better

A trans man claims he "gained privilege" after transitioning and is treated better now than when he lived as a woman - despite "daily transphobic online comments".

Samuel says an unexpected part of his transition is he "gained male privilege" -compared to when he was still living as a woman. He said as a woman, people would constantly talk over him, objectify him and he didn't feel safe walking home at night - and now it's the complete opposite.

So does this mean we have to rely on transmen to get the world to believe that women experience sexism, discrimination and violence?

He came out to the housemates not too far from the end. Noone suspected, I didn't. So he passed. But had a vagina still at the time. He was distressed about being female. Not the same as nadia.

I mean luke was vaguely feminine at times but you wouldn't have thought anything of it.

Testosterone has an enormous effect on the body so transmen on testosterone do indeed pass as men more easily than TW can pass as women. So both TW and TM seem more male than women.
I wouldn't deny both these groups experience male privilege.

And is also assumed to be why so few trans women out themselves

... but most T M don't need to out themselves, it's usually pretty obvious. Transmen tend to pass better than TW, but only superficially. In photos they can seem quite convincing, but when you stand next to a transman and see how they move, notice body shape, hand and foot size, where fat rests on their bodies, etc it is unnecessary for them to be 'outed'.

If a woman can successfully disguise herself as a man, it's not surprising that she will be accommodated in the same way men are.

But as soon as people know, the privilege disappears. And I'm sure most of the time the privilege is temporary, because it's hard to pass when someone really takes a good, long look.

And I'm sure it does work the other way around, but far less frequently, because men are far less likely to pass.

I can imagine how pleasant it would be for a passing transman tho. I've often wondered what it would be like to be treated as a man.

Let’s see how privileged he feels when he’s trying to get an abortion in Texas.
