Other police forces have higher rates of sexual misconduct and racism claims than Met

Sexual misconduct and racism claims against officers are proportionally higher in some English forces than at the Metropolitan police, as new figures also revealed starkly different approaches to recording.

Three forces – Essex, Suffolk and Staffordshire – had, by proportion, more officers under investigation due to allegations of racism than the Met, according to the snapshot of investigations covering the period of late January and early February.

While 30 officers were under investigation in Suffolk – a force of 1,298 – over allegations of racism and 37 at Staffordshire, the figure was as high as 157 at Essex police, according to data released under the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act.

Meanwhile, two forces – Staffordshire and Bedfordshire – had by proportion more officers officially under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct than the Met.
Nineteen officers were being investigated at Staffordshire and 14 at Bedfordshire, according to the snapshot of investigations.

Another force with a relatively high proportion of investigations into allegations of racism against its officers was the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, whose ranks had included Sarah Everard’s killer, Wayne Couzens. Twelve officers were under investigation over alleged racism, including seven suspended ones.

(Just posting this as I think it is really important that we remain aware that women around the country are vulnerable to their local police. The problem is that people use the issue of male violence against women in the Met, not because they care about women, but there is a sort left fetish about being seen to be loudly anti-Met. There may well be a "few bad apples" but the bad apples dont get thrown out of the police, because male bonding means others protect them. )

Are these allegations only.
What are the figures for the guilty outcomes?

I say this as i have had allegations made at me which are unfounded but have to be recorded.

Maybe the problem isn't greater in those other forces but rather the Met doesn't bother taking acusations seriously enough to bother investigating.

'See? we're not THAT bad! other forces are worse!'

Oh jolly good that's ok then?!?!
I'm surprised West Yorks isn't on the list.

The race to the bottom.

My thought exactly.

How many police forces are there to compared in this way? The article doesn't say, other than to mention that there are "more than 40 models of policing in England and Wales."

Because even if there are just 40, then being in the bottom 10% across the board is pretty damning...

I can believe this to be true because racism and misogyny is intrinsic to the very fabric of policing it follows that the Met isn't an outlier or 'alone' in this. It's about as shocking as finding carrots in the veg aisle in Tesco.
