To talk about her book, good girls - about her own anorexia and the illness within girls.

I find it a little jarring that this review is in the Guardian but it's a good overview.

1st interview. (I'll have to listen on catchup :( )

Very good interview. I've never really understood that anorexia is as much about being ill as about being thin.
Also the 'split brain ' idea explains a lot. A horrible thing for parents as much as the victims of this illness.

Really enjoyed this interview and can relate so much! I was under Professor Lacey in my early twenties and am one of the third who recovered. With my eldest showed signs of perfectionist thinking from before she could talk, I tried so hard to teach her that it was ok to be messy, loud, to make mistakes etc, and that she is loved for who she us just as she is.

I was careful to never put myself down and to be really body positive and I never diet or consciously control food - no good or bad foods etc but she still suffered from anorexia despite it all so definitely think there is some hereditary aspect.

I think though the fact I’d modelled healthy thinking and eating always and that I got help for her straight away and did all the things suggested in this interview really helped and she’s now a few years at normal weight and doing well in recovery but it’s the hardest thing to see your child close to death and anorexia is such an evil illness. I think that’s possibly why ex ED sufferers see through the trans thing so easily as we’ve had body dysphoria and know how the reality of it all seems when you’re in the grips of it.
