Posie Parker tribute to the women in New Zealand whose names we will never know

Women were injured that day, women who you may never hear about. You will never know their names. They didn’t get to hop on a plane and leave; they have to stay and live in a country that has told them their lives are not worth protecting.

"Where were the police? Not one officer was in that crowd; not one officer was there to protect the brave women who turned up. Within seconds a man had tipped tomato soup all over my head. I continued to live-stream. But over the next few minutes the mob took on a life of its own. A frenzy grew until it was a deafening swell, a modern-day ‘Burn the witch’. Men started ripping down the barriers and charging forward. ‘The police aren’t coming,’ said my head of security."

It still feels like a punch to the gut even just reading it.

I still struggle with the fact that in 2023 in a supposedly civil, EQUAL society the politicians and the police are so complicit in letting women get assaulted, and the shit beat out of them in public and on camera. AND DO FUCKING NOTHING TO HELP OR STOP IT.

Absolutely ashamed of my country right now.

There is barely anything in the mainstream media about this - a few opinion pieces, mostly concentrated on gaslighting people into thinking it was a joyous, love-filled protest.

If you had told me when I was at uni in the 90s that women trying to speak about our rights would be silenced, literally and figuratively, painted as Nazis and fascists for wanting single-sex spaces, that politicians and the media would look the other way when men reacted violently to women speaking, I just wouldn’t have believed it. I would have assumed it was something out of a dystopian Atwood novel.

But here we are.

As disheartened as I am by politicians on the left - I know the conversations online are happening.

Chris Hipkins is literally willing this issue to go away.

It isn’t and it won’t. He has no idea.

A month ago, a handful of Kiwis had never heard of Posie Parker. Now she is a household name.

And the lie that she is a hard right fascist Nazi is going to crumble and disintegrate, and people are going to be forced to consider the truth.

It's absolutely abhorrent how Kellie-Jay Keen and the people who came in support of her were treated! How the police left her and the women who were there to speak, to fend for themselves! I hope she sure.

Damn auto correct, SUES

The same! Except if you told me this, I wouldn't have believed you as recently as last year. I had no idea how bad it was getting. For example, most of us had no idea about self ID and so called 'anti-conversion therapy' bills (which actually make it illegal NOT to inflict conversion therapy on children!) Because it was done on the sly. Fortunately, what happened in Auckland has opened a lot of eyes to how dangerous trans rights activism has gotten.

ManaWāhineKōrero - from twitter

We'd like to thank everyone for their outpouring of support and aroha in light of the horrendous TRA violence displayed for all the world to see at the #LetWomenSpeak event in Auckland on Saturday.

MWK collaborated with other women to organise the NZ events 1/
& we spent hours & hours of time, energy & money attempting to ensure the safety of women was upheld by respective Councils & by Police.
As we all know now, we were sold out. We are constantly amazed that such a so called minority group has the power & influence to impact 2/
the behaviour of media, certain elected officials, Councils & Police in an effort to violently quell our voices.

After Kellie-Jay was safely exited from the violent scenes on Saturday, supporters were left to fend for themselves from the unhinged baying lynch mob 3/
thanks in great part to Police inaction and disinterest.

Women - elderly - were chased up the street, one was punched more than once in the face, we believe another didn't even make it to the event before she was punched in the face having to go to hospital 4/
another woman has a broken foot, women were spat on, had projectiles thrown at them, were kicked, grabbed at by the hair, clothing, legs, arms, pulled to the ground in an effort to be trampled on - the scenes have been described by attendees as 'zombie apocalypic.' 5/

That the media has decided to gloss over the reality of these traumatic experiences is no surprise. We know this is their standard.

We have been asked by media for an interview but given their lack of honesty & integrity we turned it down.

Despite the orchestrated manner 6/
in which these events were shut down, we will not be deterred.

We thank @ThePosieParker for ripping the scab off for the whole world to see.

We are so proud of our wahine toa and what they were forced to endure on Saturday.
This is not the end. Kia ora.

My speech read out in Britain at the protest in front of the New Zealand Embassy.

I was part of the organising group that arranged Kellie-Jay Keen's visit to New Zealand.

I was assaulted at Let Women Speak Auckland as we helped Kellie-Jay leave the area that ended up hosting a riot, not of our making.

I was screamed at, threatened, had liquids thrown on me, pushed to the ground, put in a headlock, scratched, punched and kicked. By men who hate women.

Here is the proof of the TRAs violence, contempt, hatred and dehumanising, that we've been talking about for years. They handed it to us on a plate.

I only remember thinking if I don't get up, don't stand up, I won't make it out alive.
So I did stand up, though I don't remember how. Maybe the crowd surged forward and I was lucky to grab the momentum. Maybe I did it on my own. But I fucking got back up.

I will hold others to account for their betrayal. To the police operator who refused to do anything, to the police who lied and said they'd protect us then stood around watching, to the media who fed the public lies and vitriol, to the politicians that say "trans rights" are more important than the women who gave birth to them, to the men who attacked me; I'll never forgive them.

I will not stop fighting. I will not lose my womanhood to misogyny, homophobia delusion, and lies. I will not allow gender ideology to erase me. I will not allow this future for my descendants.

They knocked me down, I got back up, and it's all practice for next time round.
This bitch is now legion.

Even more shocking is that we (NZ) first gave women the right to vote!

Whaeanui · 30/03/2023 19:07

Really hard reading from Tania, our brave sister. I’m shocked at the level it got to, but I knew there was this undercurrent of ugliness in NZ, that women were still considered less than men by too many. It is obvious that exists because of the hideous violence against women there. But to have media completely distort facts and withhold information in a seemingly coordinated fashion, for the police to pull out of protecting them at the last minute, to have the PM say after the scenes of violence he would of been there… it went to a very very dark place in NZ in the weekend and that is not quite what I expected. Not at all. It just doesn’t have the same meaning to me now. It’s sickening.

Whaeanui · 30/03/2023 19:08

The media were bad in the 90’s, with racism more so, but I wouldn’t have thought they’d still be like this in 2023. Just what the hell. Where’s the real journalism? They are tagged in video footage so they know, but they have no desire to get the facts out there?

IwantToRetire · 30/03/2023 19:38

I had hoped to post more direct comments / reports from women in NZ as I had collected links.

Now it seems I must have deleted the document with the links, or I never saved it :'(

So if anyone else has reports or comments please do add.

Never know if the fault is with the tech or with the human operator of the tech.
