Did anyone else listen to this? It’s on Times radio so a bit niche. It was quite weird. At the end, jane said she had no problems using toilets with trans woman, from whom we had nothing fear. She claimed we should really be focusing on male violence and should stop “bickering”. For someone who has presented woman’s hour she quite spectacularly missed the point on safeguarding and I absolutely hated the implication that women concerned with this are “bickering”. They also let izzard talk a fair amount of shit. Massively disappointing but maybe it’s what I should expect.

Just caught a bit of the interview on YT.
The luviness off the scale, the presenters and Izzard just "all girls together". Surprised there were no three way GIRL POWER! salutes, lol.
But what turned my stomach was the reference to him as Suzy. Yes, I believe Suzy is Izzard's dead GFs name. And now he's taken her name, and it's just accepted. Garvey just used the name like it was nothing, no big deal.
Is it just me, or is this deeply creepy and possessive? Not only is he taking female identity, he's taking THE identity of an actual female. One that can't give her permission.
How does her family feel? They get no say in the matter.
And of course with the TRA handbook, any unease or antipathy is my problem, my lack of inclusivity.
What about doing the right thing? Common courtesy?

I heard the Eddie Izzard interview. I wish I'd seen this thread at the time. I thought it was hilarious.

After a long explanation about how he doesn't mind being called he or she and he has always been a woman called Suzy but couldn't come out until recently and now was happy to be called Suzy or Eddie, JG kept calling him 'Suzy-Eddie'. Eventually Eddie got quite exasperated and had to say he isn't called 'Suzy-Eddie' that sounded ridiculous. He is either Suzy or Eddie.

It was brilliant. If referring to him several times as 'Suzy-Eddie' isn't classic fence-sitting, I don't know what is!

I'd be absolutely fascinated to know whether they are getting correspondence from listeners on this, and what kind if so. I mean if, as I assume, they have quite a few middle-aged(ish), middle-class(ish) female listeners, I just can't imagine all of them are fully bought into gender ideology. I do detect a very slight change of tone but I might be reading too much into that. As it is, it's patronising really - there seems to be an assumption that our poor little heads can't manage the complexity of the issue. Or something I think they said this week was that this is probably not a significant issue for many of their listeners - or at least, twitter debates on the subject may not be. That's wrong. It's clearly a massive issue.

Jane and Fi are interviewing Caster Semanya this week. What are the chances that they will make it clear that he is male? I'm betting on very low.
