Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Denise Fahmy taking Arts Council England to an Employment Tribunal because she has been harassed for being gender critical.

Denise Fahmy queried why an award to the LGB Alliance was withdrawn and then faced harrassment at work.

From her summary:
" some of my colleagues saw fit to circulate a petition to all staff against me and any other 'gender criticals' working at ACE. The petition was hosted for 26 hours on the ACE staff intranet, gaining the attention of 700 staff and signatures from over 100 of them. People signed it, and made comments, citing gender critical people like me and LGB Alliance as parasites, neo nazis, needing to be stamped out ..."

Denise is gardening in the usual place - see "Fighting bias at the top of the Arts Council"

If you're able to help her out by planting or sharing please do. Thank you.

Agree @ArabellaScott and @MissLucyEyelesbarrow the arts are riddled with homophobia and sexism. They seems to have been waiting for the right moment to put the uppity women and stroppy lesbians and gay men back in their places.

Bring some sunshine to the arts. Google 'Fighting bias at the top of the Arts Council' if you'd like to support a gc woman.

'ACE have been captured by Stonewall & are responsible for introducing mixed-sex toilets in theatres & funding the 'Family Sex Show' & the 'Rainbow Dildo Monkey.''

Thanks. Will donate.

I didn’t know that. Shocking.

GrimDamnFanjo · 26/03/2023 13:46

That's horrific. I can't imagine turning up for work and facing that level of hostility.

Truely grim. there should be some sort of health and safety rule about staff publically campaigning for the punishment or sacking other staff unless the staff member has done something physically violent.

Add fit forfeit

I mean people shouldn't need to have to pay a Barrister to go to an Employment Tribunal. In the good old days when Trade Unions were not signed up to 'genderwoo', a Trade Union Rep could/would have represented her instead.

WarriorN · 26/03/2023 19:43

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow and @Tidyspy yes, the arts and museums have a big educational commitment.

I believe that museums and galleries must offer a strong education service to qualify for gov funding to enable them to be free.

As such the sector is very much bound together with the arts council.

All my teaching experiences via arts mark and arts awards are very much immersed in a mix of museums, arts venues and galleries. They're embedding themselves in education.

The arts council also links to literacy so schools may do arts award and arts mark projects with their literacy curriculum.

Arts mark require a big section where you prove you are good on inclusion and diversity and how you will make sure that your projects are inclusive and diverse.

ChristinaXYZ · 01/04/2023 13:02

Very happy to seen your gardening fund creep up to 18k @DizF but I know you still need to keep fundraising to meet your target. Hoping this little bump will gain you a bit more visibilty today. Thank you for being brave enough to take this on.

@WarriorN completely agree, the organisation I work for does a lot of stuff with young people and the actual creative work is great, but they think they’re being so inclusive by asking 12 yr olds their pronouns. I actually won’t send my own DC to any activities there now which is a shame but it’s such BS. I’m the middle aged woman in the office and if I say anything I’ll be labelled a transphobe and out on my ear. Work meetings would be funny if it wasn’t so tragic:
”so I had a good meeting with Sarah and she…”
”sorry - they”
”what?”
”sarah - she, sorry, they, goes by they now. Sorry”
”oh right, sorry sorry. Yes - they said the project’s going well and she’s…
”they”
”sorry, they - er - is working with Ben and he…
”they”
”what?
”Ben - goes by they too”
”does he? I mean do they? Sorry. So anyway they’ve got a new workspace and…”
”sorry who has?”
”what”
”Ben or Sarah has the new studio?”
”both of them”
“Ok ok”
A version of this happens in every meetings, total madness.

😂😂😘

Tabasco007 · 02/04/2023 12:04

Sorry, meant 3 of these 😂😂😂, not sure how the 😘 got in there 🤦🏻‍♀️

ArabellaScott · 02/04/2023 19:22

DizF · 02/04/2023 21:20

EdithStourton · 03/04/2023 08:13

Some early gardening now done.
@Tidyspy that Sarah and Ben story would be a great comedy skit if it were only permitted....

birchtreeglow · 03/04/2023 17:10

I can't believe (well yes I can) what I've just read. Happy to support.

DizF · 03/04/2023 17:11

Thank you can finally get some legal help - it's been so difficult wading through the internet to work out how to do this ! Still got more to raise but now have some clout !!

SerotinaPickeler · 03/04/2023 17:32

Have gardened. Good luck 👍

ArabellaScott · 03/04/2023 17:41

Holy fuck.

''the harassment she claims to have suffered arise from her own gender-critical views which are in themselves capable of amounting to harassment'.'

Astonishing pish. It might be good to name and shame that insurance provider.

ArabellaScott · 03/04/2023 17:43

Oh, I see you did.
