We should watch this everyday. It is brilliant.

@Helleofabore I’ve certainly been doing just that!

Artisticpaint · 14/03/2023 12:01

Fabulous

knackeredcat · 14/03/2023 12:03

Bookmarked to watch (probably) every day! 👏

Wish she could live forever, the world needs her.

Female

Is not sugar and spice

And all things nice

Nor lipstick and dresses

And long curled tresses

Not sexy, not demure,

Not pink, not pure

Not giggles, not weeping

Nor fucking housekeeping

Not feminine

Despite all the din

Female

Is girl and is woman

A fully-fledged human

Whose brain and

Personality

Matter more than

Her body -
Which is, merely

A vessel of life

And pleasure, pain, strife

From which blood or milk can leak

Even its hair up for critique

From which she can't exit

And often a target

To abuse, censor, control

Reduced to breasts and a hole

Whatever her choices

Whatever she voices.

Non-females could not ever know

The journey to womanhood, no.

Love this, it's great x

Such a clever woman. Just a thought inspired by GG saying that she was often admonished for not being ladylike enough, maybe trans women would like to use the term 'lady'. Its nice and feminine sounding and most women don't seem to really care for it, so it's up for grabs so to speak?

"I'm a Lady".

Maybe not !

Deadringer · 17/03/2023 18:18

Sums it up Serotina

TheLeadbetterLife · 17/03/2023 19:30

She’s simply one of the greatest minds of all time. Her intellect is breathtaking and always has been.

Random789 · 17/03/2023 19:37

Oh my god that is fucking fabulous. SO happy that she hasn't felt utterly silenced and that she is still telling it as it is so eloquently at 80.

Figrolls14 · 17/03/2023 19:46

Oh f me, I love her!!!
Vive!!!!

Very well put and very relevant today.
I had a read through the Tweets and one person said it was the opposite of what she had said previously in a book regarding gender being more important than biology. Perhaps. But a) context is everything (do we know the context of what she said previously? E.g. was she using gender in a "gender stereotypes" way before the word took on extra meaning? or b) have her views changed as she experiences more life and forms different views. Rhetorical questions.
Most importantly, this is a great video and incredibly well articulated, particularly in response to the question midway through. Thank you for sharing.

It’s a long time since I read ‘The Female Eunuch’ but I think this clip is consistent with the views on drag and transition expressed in it.

Thanks @sashh

In 2021 Greer had returned to Australia to sell her home and put herself into aged care [wiki]

Ah, shame. Hope it's a kind place and that she's still bolshy.

I've been doing some googling and found this article, from last August, which says she is living with her brother having left whatever care home (not sure on the Australian system) she was living in. So she was being interviewed as recently as that.

Love the idea of TWAL (transwomen are ladies)😄. Makes perfect sense.

MavisMcMinty · 17/03/2023 23:15

Oh yes, the only time I’ve ever enjoyed being called a “lady” was when I was 16-ish (and still thought of myself as a girl), and heard a little girl on the other side of the road I was walking down ask her father why he was “looking at that lady’s legs, Daddy?”
