Just completed a form for DD’s outward bound course later this year. There is a question on ‘gender identity’ with the option of male/female/other. Given the centre has dorms rather than private rooms, surely this is a safeguarding risk when we are talking about teenagers?

I have fed this back to them!

What does their safeguarding policy say about mixed sex sleeping, showering etc OP?

And what's the age range?

AlisonDonut · 10/03/2023 17:18

You'd think. But you really need to check this before she goes away.

I presume it's so that any "others" can be segregated appropriately. My DD's boarding school had space set aside for any gender issues, they are used to dealing with it

The policy in the trust is that if they identify as non binary they are in a room by themselves.

No drama.

That's fair enough. What happens if they identify as the opposite sex?

PushingAnElephantUpTheStairs · 10/03/2023 18:01

Exactly the same.

Exactly the same.

But how do they know if the only question is about gender identity? If they ask for sex and GI then yes, but otherwise if Alex ticks the GI female box how do they know whether Alex has a penis and shouldn't be showering with the girls?
