Lloyd Russell-Moyle is on the Politics Live panel today when they will discuss the importance of sex based language in the NHS. Wonder how many women he's going to shout at today?

Haha, why do they even have a man discussing sex based language which is mainly aimed at women? He’s so silly

FourTeaFallOut · 08/03/2023 11:35

Oh, they're not talking about it yet. They are covering the petition to return to sex based language in NHS literature later in the show. I was too distracted when it came on to see who was invited to talk about it, but I expect he'll have something to say, unless he only has it in for Rosie Duffield?

Deluded younger women "ghetto-isation of healthcare"
Lloyd RM - "what about surrogates who are genetically are not the mother" ?!
"case by case"

I was amazed to hear Dr Louise Irvine say that 40% of women don't know what a cervix is. It seems it was Dalia Gebrial turn to do the heavy lifting with various, 'how dare you' platitudes. Lloyd Russell-Moyle did some sweeping at the end to suggest that Irvine represents a small fraction of NHS workers and that the NHS professionals should figure it out between themselves.

This in the face of a strong argument that the obfuscation of gender neutral language is getting in the way of women accessing good health knowledge and the inevitable cascade of consequences that follows. Irwin's suggestion that trans individuals need better literature who have specific health needs and require specific tans literature. Dalia Gebrial thinks this is tantamount to a health ghetto.

Dalia was just an obnoxious hand maiden.

Crikeyisthatthetime · 08/03/2023 12:14

I was happy to see it being discussed, and the expert given time and space to make her case. The importance of the use of the word "woman" is finally being publicly debated, and the danger of the obfuscation of language is being made clear, and what is more, it's showing the "but we have to be inclusive" argument as the nonsense it is.

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 08/03/2023 12:28

Before the younger woman even spoke I knew what was going to come out 🤦‍♀️. "We're all people, are you not a person" bollocks. Even threw in a bonus "no one is saying you can't say women!" Except for this it seems. And anywhere else where referring to women specific language give males the hurty feelz, let's be honest.

Excellent point from the spokeswoman about how tailored care is the answer, her example was you have a TW who would require prostate screening but possibly also breast tissue screening due to taking hormones.

nepeta · 08/03/2023 18:37

Did anyone mention that 'men' are not erased, only 'women'?

FourTeaFallOut · 08/03/2023 18:39

Yes, Dr Irwin was well on to that but she was being heavily interrupted at that point, iirc.
