UK drag performer on to talk about it. He does drag acts for children but wouldn't do a really explicit act for children.

I've just watched it. Kay gave him an easy ride and he didn't really answer the one slightly difficult question.

Great news though...

Drag has no place with children

mumda · 06/03/2023 08:20

The first drag act he saw was on holiday and his family have a recording of that. Which he cherishes. Looking back he can see it was explicit but as a child he didn't get that aspect of it.

I need to read much more about this. But from what I have read, this is about banning adult cabaret completely, not just performances for minors?

I'm no supporter of DQST (or the other examples stated in Sky's report) but unless I've not understood this, isn't this a pretty worrying precedent?

It's a sideshow considering what Texas are up to.

And this is the pattern of too much liberalism, there becomes an inevitable backlash that goes far to the right. Like outright bans.

If only we could remember to exercise some restraint and common sense.

But they've put a ban in law. And if they do it for anything that could be considered adult entertainment, drag, burlesque, cabaret, isn't this just the start? Couldn't they decide to ban any kind of performance or art or writing they don't like or fear could be put in front of the wrong audience? Am I missing something?

I saw a video of Jon Stewart grilling a senator about this and as tiresome as his angry rants are these days - I didn't agree with his entire argument - he made a very strong point about how these politicians sit on their hands and do eff all when it comes to protecting kids from guns.

It is banning performances where children can see, it is not a total ban.

And so the cycle of lowering children’s boundaries and exposing them to inappropriate content continues.

He must lack any self-awareness and introspection to put 2 and 2 together.

Ah thanks Ingenieur, the Sky report was a bit poorly worded, should have looked more closely:

The bill bans adult cabaret from public property or anywhere minors might be present.

No problem @Spidergloves , I noticed the lack of info too.
this site has a bit more detail, looks like it prohibits performances 300m from a school or place of worship.
