Anyone seen this book - just concerned that it may have pushing a gender thing as it's possibly going to be floating around in schools/with primary aged children. However I haven't read it.

Billy's Bravery

I don't have the book, but the description looks reassuring.

Product Description

Billy absolutely LOVES Nature Girl. She's his favourite superhero EVER! He has read all the books, seen all the cartoons, and he's even got his own Nature Girl costume! So when World Book Day comes round, Billy knows exactly who he wants to dress up as.

Then Billy hears a nasty voice in his head. What if he looks silly? What if his friends make fun of him? Going out in a costume can be scary, even if you are dressed up as your favourite character in the whole world. Can Billy be as brave as Nature Girl?

This unmissable World Book Day picture book is a wonderfully reassuring and uplifting story about finding your courage - the perfect springboard for talking about anxiety and self-belief with little ones.

Yes was going to say, from the description it sounds like a fairly common "issue" - I certainly know several young boys who've wanted to dress as female characters. One just oblivious to why boys/ girls wear different things and one who is more about wanting to be accepted by the girls/ loves the characters .

It's definitely a discussion we've had. Even when I've been given "feminine" clothes for boys I've questioned which ones are "ok' and why. (Green and purple apparently codes as "girl" now!)

Yep, I’ve read it.

Billy wants to dress up as his favourite superhero who happens to be a girl but he is worried his friends will laugh at him. Message is being brave is doing things even when they are a bit scary. The powerful character in the book is the female superhero.

As a Terf I’m happy to read this to my girls.

Sounds like it’s doing the exact opposite, and actually explaining that not conforming to gender stereotypes doesn’t mean your biological sex is in some way “wrong”.

Nothing wrong with a boy wanting to dress up as a female character for WBD.

I like the idea of a boy having his favourite hero as a girl.

It seems Tom Percival has a whole series of books about feelings, I have just watched a couple of YouTube videos, one of him reading The Invisible and Justin Fletcher reading Ruby's Worry, they seem quite nice books.
