What does ‘terf island’ actually mean?

I went to a conference today. One of the speakers mentioned TERF island. It was said when talking about the difficulties faced by trans and non binary people living in the UK. I can't help but feel this was an inappropriate term to use but then it was her lecture?

How does everyone feel about the phrase ‘terf island’ and what does it mean to them?

Britain isn’t an island, it’s an archipelago. What happened to the approximately 6000 other islands that comprise the British Isles? Are they not terven enough?!

I take it as a compliment of our ability to say “no you cannot have our sex based rights”

but yes they mean it as an insult so I would feed back and say it’s inappropriate in a work setting

Basically the UK is the one single country where women said hang the fuck on, this means what exactly for women and safeguarding? And raised awareness, made a lot of noise, got things (eventually) in front of people with voices including some journalists, started meeting and forming grass roots groups and were basically so bloody awkward that the planned gallop through of the legislation to end women's rights and women at all as a sex class before anyone noticed wasn't achieved.

Women in other countries have explained here how they were caught on the back foot and mostly it had been done to them before they'd had time to realise or do anything about it.

Yes, it's something to be proud of: that a noisy political lobby who insist it is impossible for them to be happy until women have lost their rights, spaces, equality, access, voice and words, has been made to wait while some thinking goes on. And it's very, very slow thinking and the wheels turn painfully slowly, but it is going on. Achieved in part through not having one of the left parties in power who would have galloped this through with drums and trumpets.

I am proud to be a terf living on Terf Island hanging out here with the rest of my terven of witches.

I wouldn’t call myself a terf, because the word centres men (of course, as it’s a male view of women) by starting with trans. And that means males,as we don’t exclude females even if they call themselves men.

But I don’t mind being called a terf because I’m proud to be recognised as a feminist. I love Terf Island! And the graphic, with Britain’s light blazing out like a beacon, actually brought tears to my eyes.

Where, in Canada, a man wearing cup size X prosthetic breasts with protruding nipples, and now says he is a woman teaches woodwork at a school and the school board dare not stop him. A baby rapist says he is a woman and is in a female prison where there is a mother and baby unit.

I am a bit too tired so, hope others will explain why bad though the pressures from gender identity ideology are here on Terf Island, it is so much better than elsewhere.

Incase you’ve been hearing about the most marginalised in society, the literal violence, the suicides without instant affirmation of trans gender-questioning confused teens, how people want conversion therapy for trans people to ‘torture’ them, please take it with a pinch of salt.

If anyone here has not yet seen this, the intention behind it is to get greater clarity in U.K. law for everyone’s benefit.

I’m glad I live on this island. And I’m grateful for this board. Hopefully “dinosaurs” continue to roam these lands for many years.

I think Terf Island used in a professional speech as a given negative is a bit strange. Especially as it's meant to be a slur.

Personally I love the term, it makes the UK seem like a sanity haven.

That's bloody brilliant. I shall use that from now on as explaining it to people trans exclusionary radical feminists just makes their eyes glaze over. I like it so much I'd like to buy it on a T-shirt.

Trans people have a huge amount of support here as demonstrated by nhs, the EA10 and thousands of trans inclusive (or exclusively trans) charities and services.

Because all this actively leads to harm (children) and the exclusion of women from single sex services, of course women are fucked off and Tired of Explaining Reality to Fuckwits.
