I just came across it looking for something else. I thought some people here might be interested.

Absolute bargain - but I hear that it’s a nightmare to read on a Kindle. A lot of the plot develops through parallel online chats.

I found it quite a slog but it grows on you - the insight into online culture is terrific, and you really feel you are solving the crimes along with Robin and Strike, if that makes sense. You wouldn’t need to read them all but not sure I’d recommend it as an introduction to the series. The Cuckoo’s Calling (the first one) is a great read and very accessible.

Yes, lots of unhappy reviewers on Amazon complaining about unreadability of the Kindle edition when it first came out and so I went for the hardback instead. Even in full size print the side-by-side columns of text mimicking simultaneous onscreen chat threads were hard to follow and I imagine it would be a nightmare trying to read them on my Kindle.

@PelicanWings The BBC adaptations of all the books from The Cuckoo's Calling up to and including Troubled Blood are up on iplayer if you want to catch up before you read Ink Black Heart. I've not read the books, but I've enjoyed the adaptations, although if I remember rightly they do lose the occasional subplot, so I wouldn't use your knowledge of them as the basis of any argument against claims of JKR's transphobia in them

The TV shows lose a lot of the developing friendship between Strike and Robin so the books are much better for that aspect (and yes, a lot of subplots don't make it into the screen version).

Back up to £12.99 now. Cheaper to preorder the paperback version out in a few months.

Yeah, you can. She always does a bit of history. Having said that, I'm nearing the end of this one, and it's my least favorite of the series. It's 1,000 pages and I've struggled to feel engaged. But 99p....what a bargain.

Glad to hear a similar opinion to mine. I also found it difficult to engage, especially with the pages and pages of online conversations, often set-out three deep (when I got to the end I did realise why but it made difficult reading). Least engaging and could have been shorter - I liked Troubled Blood much more.

I found it ok on the kindle as mine is on a full size iPad.
