Just seen her on BBC Breakfast and I must say I'm very impressed. Of all the causes she could have chosen, she picked VAWG.

I don't think this is a cynical pre coronation publicity stunt, she has been supporting domestic violence and sexual violence survivors for ages.

I am sorry your daughter went through that @Tinklake44 Flowers for you both.

Wow - something like that a little kit is such a great practical idea and with no benefit publicity wise. It tells you Camilla really cares. I've always thought she was a decent person and am very grateful she is now so publicly working against VAWG.

Also can I say I'm really over the blaming women for shitty things men do. Charles was the one who cheated.I don't think anyone covered themselves with glory during that period but it's a bit rich to blame Camilla for Charles breaking his marriage vows. He's the King FFS I'm sure he has personal agency!

DOBARDAN · 01/03/2023 19:00

Camilla and Sophie Wessex - thank you both for your continued work 🌻

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 01/03/2023 19:03

However, Camilla decided to embark upon an affair with a married man who had very young children

Camilla also had young children when her husband was playing around. I'm sure she knows all about how it feels, both to be the cheater and the cheated on. That doesn't change the good work she's doing for this charity.

And as someone said, it was nearly 40 years ago. Some people just can't drop grudges, can they?

SidewaysOtter · 01/03/2023 19:30

I've always liked Camilla and this makes me think even better of her. I think she'll make an excellent Queen; she's clearly going to use her position to do some good.

IwantToRetire · 01/03/2023 19:37

I didn't post earlier as a supporter of Camilla as I am not. The whole basically arrenged marriage of Charles and Diana is shameful. And the outcome horrible. If anyone should have stopped that from ever happening was Charles.

But please dont let us derail this thread. I suspect many who do "good works" have messy private lives.

I was trying to say it is really sad that even in 2023 it is unusual enough to have Camilla or anyone else on tv talking about domestic violence. (She first became concerned back in 2010 and active in 2016)

But if Camilla with her "status" makes it more usual to discuss then good.

You would like to think that the media would be inclined to report news, eg that 2 women a week are killed by a husband or partner.

And when you compare it to news coverage of knife violence, or the deaths of children in domestic settings, the "news" is that more women are experiencing violence. (which isn't to say other violent deaths aren't a concern)

Yup.

Many people (all people?) make choices at times in their personal lives that may not be ideal, even to themselves. None of us have perfect lives, the others in our lives are perfect, and we compromise in one way or another.

That's not to say it's ever blameworthy or people should have no regrets, but I'd dare anyone to look back on an entire lifetime without ever having made compromises or mistakes of one kind or another. The people who never have, and had the chance, are pretty special. Most of us aren't that elevated.

DemiColon · 01/03/2023 19:59

Frig, the others in our lives are NOT perfect!

TerrysAllGoldGlisters · 01/03/2023 20:03

I know someone in the violence against women sector who has encountered Camilla more than once in the course of her work - apparently she's excellent at what she does, more than just across her brief, clearly knows the subject inside out and really cares about it too.

Tinklake44 · 01/03/2023 20:49

Thank you so much, it’s been a terrible time

I was unlucky enough to see her support in person, my daughter was raped last month and when she had to go to the rape clinic with the police she was given one of the lots donated by Queen consort afterwards to allow her to have a shower, it had everything that they needed and was so essential afterwards

I'm so sorry but so glad that QC made a difference. She gets women and what makes a difference

FebName · 01/03/2023 21:34

I don't know the woman but can't stand her. Wish she would just fade into the background. Her and her odious husband.

She certainly doesn't come across as any role model a feminist would aspire to be.

Cynical me is very suspicious of the all the positive media she's getting at the moment.

We'll all be shouting "Long live Queen Camilla" before you know it 🙄

And she was having sex with Chuck before and during her marriage, wasn't she?
