Laura Goldsmith in the Daily Mail discussing her ordeal at the hands of rapist Karen White. Incredibly brave. It makes me sick to think that Laura had to hear this man referred to as a woman repeatedly on the BBC, including Women's Hour.

Never happens though right? I am so sick of this bullshit. No doubt there will be people who complain that this woman is weaponising her trauma.

I think prisoners should be housed according to sex. Transgender prisoners can be sent to a specific wing or a unit if at risk from the general population.

It infuriates me that Nicola Sturgeon could do this to other women (not in this case but regarding Scotland). It just shows a lack of regard that those in power have for vulnerable women.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 26/02/2023 10:25

Brave for speaking out.

No way female pronouns should've been used for White though.

Rightsraptor · 26/02/2023 10:26

Such a shame she still feels compelled to call White 'she'. But how wonderful women are coming out and talking about it.

7Worfs · 26/02/2023 10:34

Stomach-churningly disgusting.

This issue over the last few years has made me extremely suspicious of government and any “authority” really.

Eye-opening, how much is inflicted on society by insidious agendas and well-meaning and gullible puppets in positions of power.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 26/02/2023 10:36

Wow. Well done Laura.

(in case you or your friends ever stumble across this thread)

Hoping that life on the outside is much better for you nowadays and that you’ve been able to access some support re: both addiction and sexual assault.

I also hope that you get to the point where you can freely call Stephen Karen White Wood ‘he’, but perhaps you made a measured decision in an attempt to minimise any blow back, especially if your friends/local gay scene is still in the ‘be kind’ phase.
There are lots of lesbians out there who will offer you friendship and community without policing your language and I hope your brave decision to waive anonymity and speak out on behalf of currently imprisoned women brings you the solidarity you deserve.

When the stories about KW came out I wrote to the BBC and complained. They replied stated KW was a woman as they say they are a woman. I replied saying that this was the state broadcaster, lying to and gaslighting women who had been assaulted by what they knew was a man. I also said that KW had never confirmed pronouns etc and they were basically choosing to show great respect and sympathy to a man who had: raped a 19 year old, stabbed an elderly man, sexually assaulted women in prison, and that their behaviour showed an utter disregard for the victims. Upon receipt of this letter I was listed as a vexacious complainant and blacklisted. Transphobic. Yet now here we are. Karen White is and always was a violent predatory man. Why was the BBC so determined to protect him?

Poor Laura will have been gaslit and bullied by HMP staff, police, the media throughout her horrific ordeal. Shame on the state for these dangerous lies.

Four.

Four women.

There is a body count of harmed, injured people left in the wake this supporting males in living their authentic lives and all of those bodies are female. And the count is growing. Steadily.

As for 'weaponising their trauma....' What kind of a human being says this ffs? White was 'weaponising' White's penis, but the real issue is that women spoke out about it, which draws attention to the very negative realities of White and by extension other male people in women's spaces? In a way that may prejudice public opinion against letting male people crack on doing their thing regardless of harm to women?

Good! Let's talk about those realities and those women!

How about we stop blaming women for not being abused quietly enough and start expecting male people to take responsibility for their own actions and those of their sex class?

@unclebuck - if I were you I’d send a copy of the BBC’s pathetic response back to the director general and ask him to justify every word of it to you. I’d also be tempted to share it with the press to shame the bbc for their ridiculously misogynistic behaviour and policies.

I have done this 4 times over a 5 year period.

Silence. As an Operation Yewtree witness I have a letter from Dame Janet Smith advising me that:
"The BBC will extend to you the highly level of respect and is happy to have open dialogue regarding any counselling costs that you may have" etc etc.
Bullshit. Shut up is the message. Shut the fuck up, men's feelings matter more than women's safety or the truth. Again.

I remember sitting on my kitchen floor shaking hearing them refer to KW as a woman. It was a direct reminder of being told what a "good man" Savile was by BBC staff then the Police. The gaslighting and lies I was told had a more severe effect on me than Savile's behaviour towards me - and I told Dame Janet this. I knew that White's victims would be mental tormented by this language but the BBC do not care.

Never apologise for speaking about your experience @unclebuck - it’s the common threads of experience that bind us together.

When transactivists or political handwavers respond to our objections with ‘Why do YOU care so much about this issue?’ your post above is the answer - and your answer is much like all our answers.

The set dressing might be new but the playbook is as old as time and it’s easy to recognise when you’ve witnessed it before.

Please don’t apologise.
this is exactly what it is about. It is about you, the women telling their stories in the press, the women and children not telling their stories in the press, and all the rest of us.
This shit is completely avoidable and the lies and gaslighting is just incredible.

💐 and 🍰 for you

PatientZorro · 26/02/2023 11:52

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s definitely not you who should be apologising @unclebuck 💐. I’m fucking angry too. How can the BBC be so stupid and never learn the lesson?

And you have every right to be.

Your feelings, your experience, your distress, is just as important as that of any male person's.

Abccde · 26/02/2023 12:56

How horrific and she should never have been put in that position.

One thing that stood out - She said there were about 20 males the last time she had been in.

That is absolutely terrifying. It's not just the odd one here or there. It is loads of them!

Too many perverts in positions of power.

ThatParent2 · 26/02/2023 13:12

Thank you for sharing your experience @unclebuck , you are being very measured considering what has happened to you. The air of superiority from the BBC is just nauseating.

CallMeVal · 26/02/2023 13:16

@unclebuck Im so fucking angry just reading your posts! Don’t ever apologise. Everything you have said is the truth.

SinnerBoy · 26/02/2023 16:20

@unclebuck

This absolutely is about you, you have my every sympathy. It's about you and every single other victim of scum like them.

You have nothing to apologise for.

Such a shame she still feels compelled to call White 'she'.

I noticed that, too and my thought was, "How awful that she's still conditioned to call him that."

ExiledElsie · 26/02/2023 20:26

It's quite possible that the Daily Mail pressured her into agreeing to using female pronouns for this man.

The case below is one of a few referred to in the new IPSO draft guidance for gender identity issues.

www.ipso.co.uk/rulings-and-resolution-statements/ruling/?id=09309-21

Why did IPSO not take into account the power imbalance between them and the woman who wanted her story told?

I am shocked that IPSO are using this case as an example of the type of rulings they would make.

If you think this is a problem please reply to the IPSO consultation.

I think Laura will have been so abused and gaslighted that she instinctively calls him 'she' like I had a panic attack when people made jokes about Savile being a paedo/necrophiliac etc

This.

The poor woman lived in a situation, 24/7, where she was afraid of this male and would have received additional punishment from the authorities if she dared to displease by not maintaining the illusion that her abuser was a woman. Abuse layered on abuse.

SinnerBoy · 27/02/2023 00:41

Yes well, if a trans "w" prisoner gets a telling off and a few days seg for beating a woman up.

And a beaten up woman prisoner gets extra days on her sentence, for saying, "He hit me."

Is it any surprise?
