Signage at my work HQ, a county council in the South East of England, were recently refurbed including directions, office numbers and meeting rooms across a 4 floor large old fashioned block.

Thought nothing of it until I went to the loo.... and discovered new signs!

Female toilet.
Male toilet.
Unisex toilet.

The unisex toilet being newly created out of part of the male toilets.

I suspected my org was coyly GC but now confirmed!

In my workplace (University) the disabled toilets on the student floors are now All Gender toilets. I think it is appalling. It's hard enough being disabled without having to wait for the blue haired ones to finish in the toilet.

Interestingly, the disabled toilets on the floors with the staff offices have been left alone.

A victory for (common?) sense. Hurrah!

Note the sections of “bullying and harassment” being “transphobic literature” (and we all know that this is usually defined as anything GC), trans people being able to use any toilet they want (no consideration for women who might want single sex facilities) and the demand that chosen pronouns are used.

Doesn't Reading Council area have a very ethnically diverse population?

What about e.g. Moslem council members, officers and staff? Are they happy that toilets etc. are not in fact single sex?

Perhaps the council doesn't consider them, or even doesn't have any.

Does EDI perhaps only include one very special group?

Love it!

Our building (which is overwhelmingly female-dominated) recently created a unisex toilet out of the women's toilet. And yes, it was at the behest of a man. I like to think your organisation has now cancelled out the madness of mine.

Have you considered getting up a petition to have a female only toilet, since there is not one? This may not have occurred to HR as a problem, perhaps?

SirChenjins · 17/02/2023 11:16

Apologies, should have been clearer - there are women’s toilets, just not on that floor. The men’s toilets are still on every floor though - go figure.

Phew op! A good news story. Or is it? Is this a story that shouldn’t really be a story in any decent society?

But being grateful for small mercies - good on employers who look after their female employees as a priority.

A refreshing change!

The unisex toilet being newly created out of part of the male toilets.

At last! An organisation which doesn't sacrifice hard-won women's spaces to pander to blokes.

I wonder if they'll monitor the frequency of the usage of unisex lavatories vis-a-vis single sex lavatories? And then, I wonder what the numbers would be?
