Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

For the 3rd week in a row the issue of Scotland's proposed trans self-id came up on Any Questions, and yet on each following Any Answers no callers about trans or women's rights

I know the BBC doesn't have enough time to allow everyone who calls in to get on the air but surely they should have a representative number?

3 weeks ago they basically allowed Christian fundamentalists to have the whole of Any Answers, cant remember what happened 2 weeks ago, and then today none.

Even though the question of whether Nicola Sturgeon was jeopardising support for Scottish Independence. The SNP MSP gave a standard by the book response about looking after the most vulnerable in society, and the Tory MSP gave a quick summary of how women's rights were impacted by this. Both got quite strong applause.

But then not one call on Any Answers about the issue at all.

I've noticed that too - the BBC is occasionally better - see thread re nick Robinson- then slides back into “let’s avoid the issue”

I think the way they are hosting Any Questions and then Any Answers has become much more directed by the presenter / the BBC.

On both shows the presenter intervenes much too much, or tries and redirects someone from what they phoned in to say (all those really silly why dont you talk to each other).

In fact if the BBC employees spoke less there would be more time on both shows for people to have the opportunity of what they think, unfiltered by a "professional" who thinks they know better than the person contributing.

A lot of what is said in irritating or worse, but I would prefer to hear that straight from the horse's mouth, than some mangled re-arranged verions that some BBC clones has decided would be better.

If some idiot wants to ring up and say Ukraine should just give Russia the land it wants, fine let them say it, and move on the the next call.

I think the BBC forgets that we can think for ourselves, we dont need to be directed by them into "right think".

I posted this elsewhere:

The programme came from Scotland and even the BBC couldn't escape from THAT question, so the version they went for (I'd imagine they would have had a choice from among a number submitted by the audience) was rather indirect, along the lines of: has the trans row damaged the campaign for independence.

The answers were:

Fiona Hyslop SNP MSP - Tories brought us Brexit, and Brexit is bad

Angela Haggerty (genderist journalist) - there are more important issues

Michael Marra Labour MSP - people are not interested in this stuff

Murdo Fraser Tory MSP - he was filling in the details, talking about the real world impact, eg rapists in women's prisons, and he was strongly shut down by the host Alex Forsyth on the basis that what he was talking about had been discussed on previous programmes and would be discussed on future programmes.

I think that there's a soft fight-back in support of gender identity ideology going on at the BBC following a series of losses of ideology encountering reality and coming off quite badly.
