Aussie Transhub bewildering trans health info

I was trying to find out how many trans identifying women gave birth in Australia when I stumbled across the Transhub website:
www.transhub.org.au/pregnancy

The Pregnancy page contains such gems as:
"Being pregnant is also not a thing that women can do, it’s a thing that people can do. Being pregnant or the ability to become pregnant doesn’t define your gender in any way, only you get to do that."

"There are a lot of different ways to approach becoming pregnant. Depending on the people and bodies involved, getting pregnant might involve inserting donor sperm, having receptive sex with a partner, or IVF treatment through a clinic."

"Chestfeeding (or breastfeeding) is something that almost everyone is able to do, regardless of their gender."

I read the entire text and am none the wiser in terms of how "people" become pregnant and what "chestfeeding" actually is.

The other reproductive health pages are just as vague. How does such blatant misinformation help trans people?

It doesn’t.

It defies the reality and capacity of what sexed bodies can do. If it points out that a body needs to built around a female human reproductive system that is in working order, it at least would provide basic facts.

It touches on that with this bit of ridiculousness:

Currently, it is still not possible for people without a uterus in Australia to get pregnant. The science is developing overseas, including several successful uterine transplants in specific circumstances, but it is likely to be quite some time before this is an accessible and available process in this country.

Errr no. Having a ‘uterus’ is not the base line here. Having a fully working uterus is the base line requirement And that requires being a human female over the age of puberty.

I can see what they are attempting to do here. But this is just very harmful to vulnerable people. Having been told that you are a woman and in all ways, and that you have periods and all this dangerous misinformation, this page is simply adding to the misinformation. And sadly the dreams of males who fully believe that they might soon be able to be pregnant. Who the fuck benefits from this?

Hoardasurass · 11/02/2023 10:18

I wish people would stop talking about transplanting a uterus into transwomen as its wrong they never had 1 so it would be IMPLANTING a uterus in a biological male. If the correct language was being used everyone would clearly see how ridiculous this is and stop pushing for it.
Yes I know that this is the reason all language is being mangled but its just so infuriating

Hey! While talking about bodies on this page, we use medical terms like ‘penis’, ‘vagina/front hole’ and ‘anus’ to describe our bits. This is just so you know what we're talking about, as our communities often use similar words for quite different body parts - particularly our genitals.

We use medical terms like 'front hole'🙄

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 11/02/2023 10:50

several successful uterine transplants in specific circumstances

Those 'specific circumstances' being that they were transplanted into women.

Rightsraptor · 11/02/2023 12:45

The question we need to ask always is 'who does this help?' We all need to look at medical info for lay people and be clear about who it's for and what it's about.

I have a bachelor's degree in midwifery and I don't understand it. Nobody would be helped by this level of verbiage, it's utterly counterproductive.

It's not 'people' who can get pregnant. Donald Trump can't get pregnant, King Charles can't get pregnant, and that will not change if they begin to identifying as women. The people who can get pregnant are a sub-group of a certain age of those who are born in the sex which typically, but not always, produces large gametes.

But their ability to get pregnant and sustain the pregnancy is based on a much more complicated biological process than just having a womb, and uterus transplants are extremely unlikely because for them to succeed the receiver must have the rest of that complicated process already in place. So being born female.

In the uninformed past there was a clear and simple term for the sex which typically, but not always, produces large gametes, and there was a widely-shared understanding of the time frame during which it was possible for individuals belonging to this group to conceive. But now we know so much better! 'Women' are people who feel feminine, including submissive, passive, emotional and nurturing, and you can identify them with your binoculars in the wild by noting that they wear skirts or dresses, have long hair, wear makeup and high heels and love sleepovers and being called girls even if they are much, much older than the old definition of 'girls'!

And of course anyone can chestfeed! Just take a knife to the muscles in your chest and dole out some morsels for the infant. Or if you wish to produce human milk and happen not to belong to the sex which typically, but not always, produces large gametes, you can take a complicated medical cocktail to induce some milk production! If, however, you do belong to that large gamete sex and if you even produced your own infant and wish to produce human milk for that infant, then you are never allowed to have any medicines at all or have a glass of wine as it could harm your infant.

All so simple.

Given most TW retain their beloved penis, I suspect the actual take-up for uterine transplants might be a tad low.

Imagine if a kid asked where babies came from and you explained it like that. They’d have more questions than answers. People don’t get pregnant, just like people don’t get others pregnant. Women get pregnant and men get us pregnant. Imagine ignoring the inherent power imbalance to this degree. I’m going to have conversations with my sons about safe sex that will include them understanding that they could potentially impregnate someone. Ditto my daughters with becoming pregnant. And doesn’t front hole just sound dehumanising?

Transparent2 · 08/07/2023 09:32

Hmmm. My wife got herself pregnant, with a little bit of assistance from me.

It does and note 'anus' is not restyled 'backhole'. Only women's genital names are bastardised and reduced in this horrible, mysoginist way.

DevilinaCardigan · 08/07/2023 10:07

I absolutely hate the term “front hole”. Not only is it incredibly dehumanising it’s anatomically wrong. Technically the urethra would be the “front hole” and the vagina the middle hole.
I would never take any organisation seriously if they think women pee out of their vagina.

When they say men can get pregnant, we know and they know that they're talking about women. And they know this because when they were little, they had the privilege of straightforward and factual sex education. When they write this nonsense, they're also doing it with the assumption that anyone reading understands the rules of the game that they're playing (whether or not you agree with it).

But everyone knows who the pregnant people are, including them!

Zeugma · 09/07/2023 09:19

Here I am yet again feeling that my brain is almost literally exploding. How did we get to the point where this kind of utter nonsense is spouted and some people nod sagely along as though it isn’t 100% lunacy? And other people, it appears, are so deluded that they can read this and genuinely believe it to be true?

I know we laugh with sheer incredulity, but it’s frightening. Reality is being denied in front of our very eyes.
