Welsh Government barging ahead Scottish style LGBTQ+ plan

I see the stupid Welsh Government (Welsh Labour+ Plaid Cymru) has announced its LBGTQ+ Action Plan.

Welsh Government announcement
www.gov.wales/wales-sets-out-ambitious-plan-hope-its-heart-reach-goal-becoming-most-lgbtq-friendly-nation-europe

Interestingly, the WG announcement doesn't mention changing gender, but the BBC News website story makes that the headline
www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-64548844

The only version of the action plan I can find is the one consulted on in 2021
www.gov.wales/sites/default/files/consultations/2021-07/lgbtq%2B-action-plan.pdf

It seems to me that the BBC has noticed what is happening in Scotland and smells a story in Wales. It also seems to me that the WG, which must have noticed, has decided it can barge ahead with this. Why? Because there are no women's prisons in Wales and the pesky rapist scenario won't arise? Do they think that's the only potential problem?

Ha! You can't say The c word. So the thread is being watched

ResisterRex · 07/02/2023 17:42

I'll try again. This is broadly what I said.

This looks like what happened in Scotland. Devolution in the form it was crafted, with no second chamber unencumbered by the worry of being re-elected, is a massive, massive mistake.

Were it not for the Lords, I'm convinced the whole of the UK would have self-ID and all that goes with it by now. Look at the US, Canada, Australia etc.

The Lords may not be perfect but I'd rather keep it.

This was just posted on another thread.

Laura Anne Jones commenting on the new LGBTQ action plan and how harmful it is for women and girls. Hannah Blythyn appears not to care.

fiendishdragon · 08/02/2023 17:12

She actually calls it 'shameful' to raise the concern that Self ID could raise issues for the safety of women and girls. I'm afraid, "I'm not going to respond because it's bigoted to even ask that question," is very much 2022's answer. Can they not see how that kind of bluster is playing out in Scotland? They look ridiculous.

OldCrone · 08/02/2023 17:24

Under 'Religion and Belief' is says
"The draft LGBTQ+ Action Plan may affect matters concerning freedoms of expression on the grounds of belief and faith. However, while the right to hold a belief is absolute, the right to manifest a religious or philosophical is a qualified one. The draft plan’s interference with the latter may be necessary in a democratic society in the interest of public safety, health or morals, or protecting the rights and freedoms of others."

They also say that the Welsh Government's belief is that "Trans women are women, trans men are men, and non-binary identities are valid”.

Using their own argument, the Welsh Government has the right to hold that belief, but the right to manifest that belief is a qualified one. They don't have the right to impose that belief on others who don't share it. They certainly shouldn't be making policy which requires everyone else to subscribe to this belief.

They seem to have taken that wording straight from the Human Rights Act. But that act protects people from being forced to demonstrate views or behaviour associated with a particular religion, in this case genderism. Just because the Welsh Government holds the belief that men are women if they say they are doesn't mean that they can force everyone else to behave as if they also hold this belief.

Just googled Hannah Blythyn who is gay. The gay women I know want safe spaces and for trans community to leave them alone and let them have their meetings, gatherings in peace.

Of course they bloody do, being biological women.

justasking111 · 08/02/2023 17:41

Hannah is as deluded as Sturgeon.

This is all so .. surreal.

I'm reminded of the weird feeling I get from having watched a TV series like The Office, or Ghosts, and then watching the American remake versions.
It all feels so bizarre watching exactly the same scenario played out with different actors in the different parliaments. Over and over.
It's like being stuck in a horrible nightmare. Something just so disturbing about it all. (Rather than just being disappointed and a bit weirded out by a crappy TV remake)

Just doesn't seem real. Like the whole world is no longer real.

DameMaud · 08/02/2023 17:49

I posted a thread on this already but reposting here in case anyone interested.
Long and rambling but if you don't mind that he (Wesley Yang) gets to the heart of what we are seeing here so well. Especially if you can get past the half way mark.

Orland0 · 08/02/2023 18:16

Ffs, I’m going to have to vote Tory at the next GE for the first time in my life 🤦‍♀️

I know we can't vote green, liberal democrats. They're all drinking the KOOL aid

Mrsorganmorgan · 08/02/2023 19:48

What about voting for the SDP?

Orland0 · 08/02/2023 19:53

Mrsorganmorgan · 08/02/2023 19:48

What about voting for the SDP?

I would if there was a candidate in my area. Last time there was only Lab, Cons, Lib Dems and Plaid I think.

Mrsorganmorgan · 08/02/2023 19:59

So sorry you don't have an SDP candidate. There is one in my area!

fiendishdragon · 09/02/2023 09:33

Planning to write to my MP and MS about this. It's atrocious that Hannah Blythyn brushed aside this vital question, when we can all see the consequences playing out in Scotland. 'Concerns are not valid' was always a ridiculous answer, now it just looks deluded. It's a valid question, that deserves an answer, and certainly doesn't deserve insults in response.

pattihews · 09/02/2023 09:41

I've already contacted Laura Ann Jones to thank her for saying what the majority of women in Wales are feeling.

fiendishdragon · 09/02/2023 09:49

Good idea @pattihews She's spoken up consistently and courageously on this issue, and deserves thanks. I think I'll send her a card.

I think this would best go on this thread:

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/02/24/blanket-ban-trans-athletes-womens-sports-opposed-welsh-labour/

"The action plan said: “In recent times, various international and domestic sporting bodies have announced policies which are not fully inclusive of trans people, particularly transgender women.
“A blanket exclusion of transgender and non-binary people risks sending a wrong message to trans young people that they cannot have the same opportunities as their friends and other children, and to all young people that they must present a certain way to be respected for who they are – which has broader implications.”
'Transgender women are women'
The document went on: “Sport is wide-ranging and a uniform approach to a very complex issue is challenging.
“There is clearly widespread support for ensuring that sport is welcoming to all, including transgender people.

“Our position concerning inclusion in sport is clear: LGBTQ+ rights, including trans rights, are human rights – and as the First Minister Mark Drakeford said, our starting point is that transgender women are women.
“Sport should be for everyone, a place where everyone can take part and where everyone is treated with kindness, dignity and respect.
“We must work hard to look for opportunities for dialogue, to find ways of promoting understanding rather than conflict, and to demonstrate respect rather than to look for exclusion.”"

Laura Anne Jones MS put this up this morning on Facebook. She's worth following for the facts she brings to light.

SammyScrounge · 22/03/2023 10:37

pattihews · 07/02/2023 17:14

Hmm. From that thread:
Peter Dunne is a co convenor for health on the Trans Legal Equality Initiative, along with Tara Hewitt. from his bio "In 2015, Peter was invited to provide evidence to the UK Parliamentary Inquiry on Transgender Equality (conducted by the House of Commons Select Committee on Women and Equalities). His research was extensively referenced by the Committee in its 2016 Report, Transgender Equality." He is a law lecturer at Bristol. He is very involved with gender identity law.

That was from 2017/2018 —another world. I love Wales but it's run like a tinpot dictatorship. A new 2022 risk assessment might not look so great for women and children? Then let's find a document that backs up what we think, even if it's five years old and written by a man who thinks that because women who'd had double mastectomies are allowed to use women's changing rooms and showers there should be no problem accommodating men and their chests.

One does have to wonder whether anyone in WG read it or whether it's just a case of an intern saying 'This'll do.'

They knew this would be scrutinised and they still couldn't be arsed to do it properly. It's shameful, just shameful. They are making Wales a mockery in the eyes of the world.

I am so pleased to see what the Welsh government proposes.as it means that I no longer have.to be embarrassed by Sturgeon and her SNP who for a while there were the stupidest government in the Western World.
