An LGBT staff network that told civil servants that talking about “protecting women and girls” could be transphobic is part of the panel that advises on where to send transgender prisoners.
The Pride in Prison & Probation (Pipp) group emailed Ministry of Justice staff in November before Trans Awareness Week to tell them about language it considered transphobic if used in a “coded” way.
The Times can reveal that Pipp is part of HM Prison and Probation Service’s Transgender Advisory Board, which, among other things, advises on “the allocation policy of transgender prisoners”.
The board provides advice to HM Prison and Probation Services’s deputy director of operational services to inform policy and best practice.
The list circulated by Pipp included phrases such as “actual/real woman”, “adult human female” and “I stand with (insert name)”. “I stand with. . .” is often used alongside the author JK Rowling’s name by those who agree with her views on gender issues.
