A few weeks ago, Tumblr user capybarad recently said "we need a tumblr-mumsnet cultural exchange programme" and I thought that was really fun. So if you'd like to meet some of us (mostly) not-mums get yourself a tumblr account!
Tumblr is obviously notorious for being the breeding ground for a lot of gender stuff (and you can totally go on trans tags to satisfy your curiosity), but it's also the place where I first saw a Magdalen Berns video. A lot of us (mostly) women in our 20s would love to have you!
Search tags like "radfems please interact" or "terf safe" to find people to follow as a starting point. If you want to find local women, search radfem with your city or country. Also enable messaging for your blog so people can chat with you.
"Reblogging" is basically the same as retweeting or quote-tweeting. Be sure to reblog things you like, it's how people find each other and if you follow someone but your blog is empty it looks suspicious and you might get blocked by someone who thinks you're a bot (imagine if a completely empty Twitter account followed you). So whenever you see something that makes you go "good point!" "smart argument!" "nice art!" reblog it.

I can never work out how it works and how you SEE stuff. I get twitter and can find a feed that is not just my stuff but 5 minutes on tumblr and I feel confused and old and wonder why they can't spell tumbler properly. Is there an idiot proof tutorial?

you need to follow people; so search those tags first and follow ten people at random and then see how your feed changes. twitter without following anyone is quite boring too!

k...what tags are the ones to follow?

bobbicunliffe · 06/02/2023 07:29

the ones i wrote just now, "terf safe" is used sometimes and "radfems please interact" is used as a sort of joke (trans activists use "terfs dont interact" similarly like on twitter, so the "please interact" is a joke but it's also used to find people). the tags that are used on twitter might work too, like "womenwontwheesht" "getthelout" etc.
also try searching "radfem [your city or country]", but you might not find much if it's full of pro-trans posts about public events (if you're searching "radfem scotland" be prepared to do some digging). ukrfeminism is a good user to follow. if you find someone who's blog you like, follow a handful of people they reblog from.

I'm loving the idea of a cultural exchange!

Just searched some of the hashtags on tumblr and saw some interesting people and posts. I'll revisit later. Thanks!

Sounds great - I have a Tumblr account but used it more during lockdown, so I already have a few radblr posters in my feed but could do with more!

I love the fact that there’s a thriving community of young feminists pushing back against gender stuff on Tumblr.

NutellaEllaElla · 06/02/2023 13:52

Alright, I've signed up and followed a few tags and accounts as you said. Thanks!

Blanketunderstars · 06/02/2023 20:49

Ooh just popped over and saw some really interesting posts, I’ve created myself an account to dive a little deeper.
Thanks for heads up.

Can second radblr! It’s where I came across radfeminism. There’s some amazing women out there that have really put a lot of thought and resources out there.
