New union formed to battle the SNP's 'indoctrination' of school kids in 'seriously wrong' education system

Saw this article yesterday, and it may already have come up on other threads.

A new union has been founded by parents, teachers and lecturers in a bid to stop the SNP allegedly indoctrinating school children in Scotland by using "white privilege and transgender ideology."

Numerous complaints have been made about what pupils are taught in schools, including the controversial sex survey which was rolled out last year and included questions on anal sex.

I think this may be one of those do you work with a group that has one issue in common, when you dont share all the objectives.

It’s a step in the right direction, if you live in Scotland, and particularly if you have offspring at risk of exposure to worrying concepts relating to sex and sexuality very much at variance with those of their parents in particular.
For those of us lucky to be living in England, we should keep a weather eye open, these are straws in the wind. There will be individuals in England sympathetic to the perverse ambitions relating to sexual education that seem to be current in Scotland who would like to introduce them here.
Parents and School Governors need to be vigilant.

Thanks for the link to the union pages. Will have to set time aside to read.

Its a fine line between challenging intrusive changes, and challenging changes because you dont think things should change.

I do wish this stuck to the influence of gender ideology rather than lumping in with critical race theory

Not sure how accurate this is about an article about how sex and gender will / are taught in schools in Scotland.

From the article: "Or they might describe themselves as cisgender if they do identify with gender expectations of their sex."

Is this the actual phrasing used in the guidance? Because that would undermine forevermore any claims if "cis" being oh so neutral an expression and nothing more than saying "straight."

I just think that putting white privilege as part of the package negates what they say about transgender issues

The arguments are different and it would be better to have a science fact based, anti sex stereotype/anti gender roles which is LBG accepting than mix it it up with the whole culture wars stuff

In this case I don't think the enemy of my enemy is my friend - there are too many other quite worrying opinions in there

I don't think it's possible to change sex , worry about the gender stereotypes needed to trans, and young people who do believe they are in the wrong body should be helped to love themselves for who they are. As adults I can refer to pronouns as people want but think we should preserve all women shortlists, sport and prisons to the born female

But opposite to this new union i think that as general principles diversity, inclusion and social justice are good things aim for

White privilege is real in a way that 'gender identity' isn't, but any example I've seen of how it's taught in schools - or even workplaces - is simplistic at best and counterproductive at worst. Tbf I think the teaching materials I've seen are from the US, but I suspect that this is another case of obnoxious US cultural imperialism and that it's no better here.

I wouldn't dismiss people complaining about this without seeing examples of what they're complaining about.

Dougalskeeper · 04/02/2023 10:04

White privilege? Sick of that term, and critical race theory in particular

The problem with the way many issues like this are taught in school is that they're very, possibly deliberately, oversimplistic.

Instead of an interesting academic discussion in relevant academic subjects about oppression at different levels and the role of historical policies on different groups, it often boils down to 'be kind and check your privilege' sound bites and superficial intiatives like posters around the school.

If they're challenging the way schools are being targeted by a range of groups who want to push ideology on children with sound bites then it's a good thing in my opinion.
