Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Talking to the head soon - hope I don't get my place withdrawn!

I'm going to be talking to the head of school for an independent school my child is applying to.

After recent stories in the press disabusing me of the notion that activism influenced RSE materials are exclusive to state schools, I felt I had to investigate and enquire before I committed my child to this institution for any length of time.

To be fair, there is nothing explicitly awful in their policies to make me overly worried. 'Sex' is nearly universally replaced with 'Gender' in all of the EA2010 birthed sections, which I don't like but isn't enough by itself to make me run for the hills. Over institutions have done the same without realising the consequences for meaning imparted by their policies. There's also a section on affordances for uniform variance on the basis of gender reassignment, which informs me they are having to support kids regards this on the day-to-day.

I have read the sex matters document and am just girding myself. I don't want to say anything stupid. I jwant to achieve two key things:

  1. ensure that my daughter will be afforded necessary protections on the basis of her sex. Are there private, single sex places she can change for sport? Are there single sex facilities where she can deal with her sanitary needs?

  2. I have a right of withdrawal from aspects of RSE, but I don't want to blindly do that as I suspect their materials will be fine. Can I get access to said materials at the appropriate junctions, so I can support my daughter at home from questions which may be born out of it? And to check for disgraced providers?

Any tips?

Yours in nervousness.

Also, ask them how they have dealt with students who want to transition.

Our otherwise lovely school was allowing children to change names and pronouns without consulting the parents.

If sex, as a protected characteristic, is replaced in their policies, how do they explain sexual orientation (another protected characteristic), and that marriage (a third protected characteristic) can be between different or same sex couples?

I've just started this thread about training give to parents in a private school. It may interest you

That is the cornerstone of all the thought control that follows from it. It matters a lot.

Apart from anything else you’ll be sending your daughter to a school where they use language in a sloppy incoherent way.

By saying ‘gender’ sex based ( biologically based) rights are wiped out.

There is another long thread on this board where a poster is trying to stop this in her child’s primary school.

Vebrithien · Today 16:12’s thread is about ‘gender’ instead of ‘sex’.

Ask if they have an LGBTQ+ club as
these can be unsupervised, or have agenda- laden supervision, and may be safe-guarding nightmares mixing older with younger children, and attractive to misfits looking for a group and validation.

Ask if they have expert pure, scientific teaching about the biology of sex.
