Some thoughts on porn

OK, this post might be long and probably uncomfortable in parts, but something "clicked" with me around porn the other day, and I wondered if other people thought I was onto something.

In 2011, I had a discussion with a friend that there was feminist porn and that I should be more openminded. So I went on redtube to take a look. I found absolutely nothing feminist, some hippie, eco-porn, some weird arty porn that had little nudity, and some feminazi lesbian stuff, but nothing actually feminist and concluded that I was basically right - feminist porn was an oxymoron.

Jump to 2016/7, I fell down the elsagate rabbit hole, and discovered that there was "Something is wrong on the internet" where youtube algorithms were promoting some very very weird videos to toddlers. Themes included toilets, injections, giving birth, milk/cream being spilt and other strange stuff, that was bubbling up into young childrens video feeds. There was a lot of theories that this was deliberate promotion of these themes to groom children however I finally concluded really money was the motivator here and that the videos were being created based what sells, that their popularity was the result of unconcious infantile sexuality being expressed through the toddlers watching the videos.

More recently, I've noticed a lot of makeup/beauty channels that use a lot of ASMR techniques and/or very deliberate camera shots also have a pornographic/erotic feel, (see for example or ) and I'm wondering if something similar is happening with the elsagate videos, that women are looking for technical make up tutorials, but are being "seduced" by content that appeals to them sexually at an unconcious level.

Has anyone come across these videos and got a similar pornographic vibe? Is this feminist porn? It doesnt seem all that feminist or pornographic, but it seems adjacent somehow. Is this women's sexuality being expressed (most commentators appear to be women)? If so, its quite an objectified expression of it.

I don’t think it’s anything like an unconscious expression of sexuality. It’s just people copying a popular look — which happens to be uncomfortably porny because they’re copying the OnlyFans / Insta vibe. ASMR is already a bit porny - it’s often made by girls who look like they don’t really want to do hardcore OnlyFans type stuff, but like the idea of being an influencer/having a channel, and think that look is the way to get subscribers.
