So I’ve posted before about my employer developing a trans support policy (rather than dealing with any useful policies that are desperately needed). I’ve commented on the section that advises that anyone complaining about sharing changing rooms/toilets with those of the opposite sex should be educated (remains in policy) and that unlimited special leave for counselling, medical appts and treatment are creating a hierarchy of protected characteristics but these have fallen on deaf ears.

Now they want to bring ENEI in to train the team including “unacceptable behaviour from colleagues or customers” and “dealing with complaints about sharing toilets with a trans person or working with a trans person on grounds of religion”.

I’ve never heard of these people. Anyone got any experience? We’re a healthcare organisation so anticipate that they will be saying that requests for same sex care are unreasonable etc.

(Ive heard that there are lots of GC folk in HR but they may be too frightened to speak up.)

If they’re investing significant time and money towards trans issues but are not equally investing to support other protected characteristics, they’re leaving themselves wide open to legal action for discrimination. The government got a legal opinion on this I believe.

I’d put something in writing to them re discrimination and la k of respect for gender critical beliefs which are legally protected but it depends how safe your job is and how much you want to keep it.

Hmmmm. I’m less than 2 years in and not sure my boss would be happy with me not toeing the line. I am looking to move on (for lots of reasons) but don’t know how quickly that might be.

(I think my boss is professionally connected to a prominent trans lawyer.)

That's quite sinister.

Would you get the same benefits if you decided to have cosmetic surgery?

GCWorkNightmare · 02/02/2023 08:19

Absolutely not.

Contact sex matters for advice and join the free speech union in case you get any aggro

I haven’t read the government’s arguments for not enacting paid menopause leave, so there may be useful lines of argument for this issue. It strikes me that special treatment for trans treatments puts the employer at risk of discrimination claims from other employees with long term health conditions or needs.

i have tried to make this point.

Here’s the earlier thread. Sorry, should have put this in the OP.
