Scottish Prison Service Policy written by trans lobby group - Scottish Women Independent Research on Women's Rights

I think this isn't a recent article but being recirculated in view of current events in Scotland.

‘Women are being put in danger because Scottish prison chiefs allow male-bodied transgender inmates to live in female-only areas of jails, campaigners have warned’ which stated –

“Scottish Trans Alliance did not respond to a request for comment last night. However the org has previously defended the SPS policy”

I’m not surprised they have defended it previously considering the policy was written by their manager James Morton.

When you click on the policy to open it up in iBooks the Author is listed as James Morton.

(Hope this doesn't duplicate an existing thread, had a quick look but couldn't see anything.)

Even if this is old, OP, it's still good to have it here to refresh our memories.

I noted that Kate Coleman said yesterday on 'Free Speech Nation' that James Morton is no longer in that role at STA, or is the 'former' whatever it was, so I imagine this means James Morton has moved on. I'm wonder where to and what havoc James will create for us now.

Two old but relevant articles about this from the Times:

Convicted sex offenders have notified Scottish police of a change of name 521 times in the past three years:

And of course, evidence of the nature of some of the people involved in exposing women to men when in prison:

I listened to an 18 month
old podcast with RMW yesterday.

RMW said that James Morton deserved the credit for the Jaguar LandRover non binary tribunal win, because it was Morton who pointed RMW towards the bit of Hansard evidence that RMW built the argument on.

That was an English case so no reason for Scottish Trans Alliance to be involved - presumably Morton must still be involved in trans legal stuff in some capacity.

Time stamped, might need to click through for it to work.

It would be fascinating to hear some of the names of those involved in the disgraceful trans activists version of the bench book (which I believe has had to be watered down as so much of it was not only biased, but legally incorrect. And the top secret but evidently shameful trans training given to judges. As well as hearing who the very self invested individuals are who get to weigh in on which sex offenders / murderers and paedophiles get women handed to them on a plate in women's prisons.

I suspect the same names would pop up repeatedly.

TheClogLady · 30/01/2023 17:46

Yes, that would be interesting! We need a public inquiry to thoroughly air all this shadowy crap out in public (although I bet we could make a jolly good guess at who is on that list).

I just ordered a copy of Christine Burns’ Trans Britain. It’s not here yet but when it is we’re going try and have a little chapter-by-chapter book club on it here, should you fancy it!

‘Is the cabinet secretary aware that the SPS implemented its policy on gender identity with an equality impact assessment that neither considered the effect on women prisoners nor consulted them?’ ⁦

James is at STA, left to care for an unwell friend and is back but not in charge.

James does not have any background in justice or policing. Trans Alliance · The case of Isla Bryson has been in the news this week. As far as we can tell, the Scottish Prison Service’s policy has generated the result it should, and that we would have expected. As we understand it, Isla Bryson was held in segregation while a risk assessment was done. That risk assessment decided, not surprisingly, that she should not be held in the women’s estate. That is what we would expect for a person convicted of rape. It is our view that anyone who has committed sexually violent crimes, and who poses a risk to women, should not be housed with women on the female estate. In September 2022, there were 15 trans people in custody in Scotland (0.2% of the prison population). Following risk assessments, 9 of them were held in the estate matching their gender assigned at birth, and 6 in the estate matching their transitioned gender. It is right that this should be decided on an individualised risk assessment basis. For example, a trans woman transitioned for 20 years, who is in prison for a non-violent offence like financial fraud, might pose no risk to other women in custody, but be at significant risk herself if accommodated on the male estate. A blanket rule about where trans people in custody are accommodated would be wrong. The assessment of where a trans person in custody is held does not depend on whether or not they have a gender recognition certificate (GRC). The risk assessment policy applies to all trans people in custody, with or without GRCs. That means that the changes to the process for applying for a GRC, overwhelmingly agreed by the Scottish Parliament in December, would have no effect on the Scottish Prison Service’s policy on this, and no effect on where trans people in custody are housed. In a community of any size, there will be some people who commit appalling crimes – that does not and should not reflect on the majority of that community. This interview is an interesting read

There is always a history of not fitting in, of very real mental distress and then of finding your gang, isn't there?

This person knows as much about jails as I do. And that's fuck all.

Sorry, this is the link Holyrood magazine interview with James Morton

Such deliberate obfuscation! 0. 2% of the prison population is Trans.

Yes, but there are 6 transwomen in the Scottish female estate. And 280 women. That's 2% or one in 50.

1 in every 50 inmates in Scottush women's prisons are men!

So assuming a block is around 20 people, that means that 40% of women are being held in a block with a man. Almost half of women negatively impacted.

Just to accommodate that 0.2% of men.

I wish that just for once, they would look at the impact on women, not men.
