It is 😂

Sazzasez · 30/01/2023 00:56

I think when he was doing the geisha one he was actually competing! (Goodness knows how he scored).

That was a couple of years before the opening ceremony: he’s got worse at it.

Some woman who can actually skate lost a place to him in the competition, and lost a chance to have her talents showcased in the opening ceremony.

Tessisme · 30/01/2023 00:58

Sweet Holy Jeez, my EYES🤣🤣

Icefisher · 30/01/2023 06:17

Minna-Maaria Lax has caused news in the past by entering in the men’s ice dance series wearing a dress even though that lost points. So, not taking a woman’s place. And it was an unofficial meet.

PriOn1 · 30/01/2023 06:39

I saw this on Twitter the other day and found it bizarre.

“Inclusive” is all very well, but none of the other skaters were incompetent.

I’m not sure that allowing someone to make a complete fool of themselves is a good idea, particularly given the inevitable anger it will instill in the increasing number of people who are becoming frustrated at how many sub-par men are being pushed into situations where it’s obvious the only reason they are there is preferential treatment to the point of absurdity.

NecessaryScene · 30/01/2023 06:44

Some woman who can actually skate lost a place to him in the competition, and lost a chance to have her talents showcased in the opening ceremony.

Or indeed multiple - being an opening ceremony, they can do whatever they like. They could have had, say, some sort of senior women's skating club or something.

I've not seen the rest of it, but I gather some of the other numbers were same-sex couples, children with Downs syndrome, etc. This one is notable because he's trying to do a solo. That's part of the delusional narcissism - he wants to be the princess in the spotlight.

Note that the "commentator" is actually a recording of him in an interview talking about his skating fantasy - his childhood dreams.

(I did wonder if he was saying childhood injuries, which would have been an excuse, but no. My Finnish is a bit rusty. (Haava = wound, haave = dream)).

He does kind of acknowledge how rubbish he is. It's something like:

"...thought to make true my childhood dreams. To start to sake in women-mode, although I was born a man. And it was nine years, and nine years contained quite a lot. Starting from nothing, to standing on two feet, to standing on one foot, to starting to dare to do something there on the ice. Then to quietly start to compete, to present in shows. [?] It was quite a nice career, then Covid came as a break and messed up the picture, but to go ahead..."

And the interviewer interjects with "These European competitions' slogan is come as you are..."

NecessaryScene · 30/01/2023 06:45

To start to sake

To start to skate, obviously.

ItsDinah · 30/01/2023 07:07

Very fey sense of humour the Finns. Moomin mode might have more international appeal. However,it's over 20 years since the last Eurovision "nul points" so perhaps it is part of a slow-burn prank. The IOC did away with the requirement for "transgender" athletes to be taking hormones to reduce testosterone levels in November last year. They did away with the requirement for surgery in 2015.

Minna-Maaria Lax has caused news in the past by entering in the men’s ice dance series wearing a dress even though that lost points. So, not taking a woman’s place. And it was an unofficial meet.

From Minna-Maaria’s Wiki page (translated using Google translate):

Minna-Maaria Lax, real name Markku-Pekka Minna-Maaria Antikainen[1], is a Finnish figure skater, farm owner[2] and project consultant[3] from Siilinjärvi. He has won bronze in 2017 in the unofficial World Championships for adult skaters in Oberstdorf, Germany. However, she was not allowed to claim her prize because she was wearing a skirt.[2]

Lax started skating after his family broke up in 2006. He has been coached since 2014 by Elise Luovula (née Ahonen), who won the Finnish championship in figure skating.[2]

In 2017, Lax was chosen as the South Karelian rural operator of the year. He has been the chairman of the Finnish transvestite association Dreamwear Club DWC ry in 2009–2015.[3]

I did like the Google comment that Some sentences may contain gender-specific alternatives.

Helenloveslee4eva · 30/01/2023 08:13

He identifies as a womens championship skater. So there we are he must be one cos that’s how he feelz

JanieAllen · 30/01/2023 10:50

I think it's a GREAT idea.

For us.

Apparently he identifies as a “gender neutral woman”. WTF does that mean? Is it an extra layer of speshulness?

I'm going with "a man who says he's a woman but knows perfectly well he will never look like or move like a woman".

The way he snatches the flag off the girl who skates over to help him. Then off he goes. I do love the face of the girl who helped him as she skated away. I'll see if I can get a screenshot.

Boiledbeetle · 30/01/2023 14:14

Transgender, not a problem
Clothing choices, each t o their own I suppose, but none of his choices would be in my wardrobe
Wants to ice skate fine, but he needs to keeps practicing. A lot lot!
Wants to do ballet fine but he needs to keeps practicing. A lot lot!
Wants to take the or does take a position of someone who a) can skate, no, and b) a woman's place no.

Boiledbeetle · 30/01/2023 14:18

Glinner have a time machine or something? 24 years ago!

RoseslnTheHospital · 30/01/2023 14:23

I honestly have no issue with this at all, apart from the usual objection to a man claiming womanhood. Especially an older man, with children, who "found" his desire to present as a woman later in life.... anyway...

I actually think the poor chap looks terrified, he is about 60 and his knees look like they are suffering. I think he was clinging to his rescuer out of panic. It's likely the largest and biggest event he's ever performed at. I don't think its reasonable to argue that he was taking the place of a woman. There were other groups of "alternative" skaters taking part, including adaptive skaters and a men's synchronised skating team. I can't find a more detailed list of participants in this section, but the implication is there were a range of people.

Right.

I can be a plucky outsider fighting for my dream against the odds.

I wanted to study ballet when I was young but my family was too poor to afford travel and lessons and clothing/shoes. Also, it turns out, I had hip dysplasia, undiagnosed for decades.

Where do I sign up for a solo on the stage of a prestigious London theatre?

catandcoffee · 31/01/2023 02:00

it's been picked up by the papers now

marvellousmaple · 31/01/2023 06:36

It was the opening ceremony. He didn't acknowledge the lady that helped him up.

ZombieMumEB · 31/01/2023 06:57

I think he might have been on his period and was worried his tampon was going to fall out, hence why he skated so badly.
