Portobello women refused council booking?

Women in Portobello booked a hall to meet and talk about their rights and the council cancelled it because of reasons.

Anyone had the same?

They presumably didn't have permission from their overlords to meet without men being present?

Or, permission to meet and talk about things the menfolks forbid for laydees

I would get in touch with Sex Matters or WRN as this has flavours of the Julie Bindel case and she won that as they discriminated against her.

Not quite. The group of parents had initially booked the local community hall, and the community org that handles the venue cancelled the booking after pressure from gender activists.

Then they placed a booking with the local library and that was all fine. Police are aware of the event etc.

Out of the blue, the library said the group needs to organise its own security or the event won't go ahead. But they wouldn't share any evidence of actual, credible threats of violence to enable the group to carry out a proper risk assessment.

Then the library said the council would be able to provide security but the group had to stump up £600 plus VAT for the gracious service.

So a crowdfunder was put online and it smashed its target and was close to £1000. So the event is finally still going ahead, despite the council's continued evasiveness on whether other public events are treated in a similar fashion and expected to hand over money like this.
