He is talking on behalf of an ideology that believes reality is what you say it is and that inconvenient facts just don't exist (and people who do not enable you in this are hateful and should be punished for mentioning things that you don't want them to).
So I would take anything he says within that context really. This is the problem with subscribers to this way of thinking having posts of public responsibility: you can't really serve both an optional personal reality and a public post at the same time.
I wonder if this one is woman gender or rapist gender according to Sturgeon? I thought she differentiated between the two. (And if he's not, following conviction and imprisonment for rape, which would have had to have been bloody serious indeed to get a prison sentence, why not?) But then see above: subscribers to this are operating in their own chosen reality.
