LGBT Youth Scotland issues?

Hi, can anyone point me to some evidence about the issues with LGBT Youth Scotland as our school seems to be promoting events run by them.

Why on earth this organisation wasn't folded after the horrific news about its founder came out I just do not know.

ArabeIIaScott · 12/09/2023 07:32

Okay, I checked and wish to clarify: Rennie was the first CEO.

its not quite clear who the founder was. Clearly Rennie was in charge in the early days, though.

I urge caution with this newspaper report. I can't get through it, myself, but it details Rennies trial and some of his crimes.

Much more credible, thanks. And what does pregnancy have to do with it? LGBT Youth Scotland do a lot of work with schools to prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying.

How did they define ‘transphobic bullying’? Did they include other pupils not upholding your fantasy about yourself? ‘Misgendering’?

This topic was raised at a meeting in our school and it turns out there was quite a bit of bullying around it - all from genderism towards other pupils. Pupils didn’t use a latest pronoun were mercilessly excluded from groups. Anyone who didn’t believe you can change sex was called names like ‘bigot’. Did LGBT Youth cover this and condemn this sort of bullying behaviour too in their training?

as there were a few middle-aged Council workers who were aghast at the idea that young people could be LGBT.

Ah yes, those mythical people who grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s who have never come across a gay person before ever.

IWillNoLie · 12/09/2023 08:21

I believe it was part of Stonewall

Rightsraptor · 12/09/2023 08:28

I have noticed, @Igneococcus, that people do seem to think that life, beliefs, customs etc etc were very different before they themselves hit their 5th birthday or so. The age when we start to grasp reality a bit more and form clearer memories.

I've recently heard how it was unusual for women to be doctors before the 1990s (no, it really wasn't) and the old chestnut that those of us who were young in the 1960s & 70s were living in a sexually repressed era. That is so very wrong, it's just laughable.

It's just fodder for their belief system that the 'olds' don't understand what is going on now.

Yes I do and I don't like it one bit.

Perhaps they were sceptical that eg 8 years old could be trans?
Rather than that 14 year olds could be gay!

The training will absolutely presuppose a belief in gender identity and teach terms such as cis. I'm sure they have done some good for young gay people in the past through youth groups etc but would be concerned about them now.

Igneococcus · 12/09/2023 08:39

You're probably right there @lifeinthelastlane

It's weird isn't it @Rightsraptor the complete lack of understanding of how people lived before them. I grew up in a family full of practicing Catholics in deepest Bavaria and my mother (who turned 90 in July) barely looked up from whatever she was doing when I told her one of oldest friends had come out as gay and all she said was "well, that was about time", and that was back in the late 80s.

ArabeIIaScott · 12/09/2023 09:01

I don't doubt that homophobic and transphobic bullying happens.

And yes, schools need to tackle it.

I have extremely grave concerns about this organisation, for all of the reasons mentioned above.

rogdmum · 12/09/2023 09:13

How odd to bump this thread after 8 months. I’d completely forgotten about my post, which is still an accurate description of LGBTYS’ idea of “adequately supported”

ArabeIIaScott · 12/09/2023 09:15

Oh, wow, I hadn't even noticed that. Why did you bump such an old thread, DeeKav?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 12/09/2023 09:43

@DeeKavCoffee couple of good questions above for ya.

DeeKavCoffee · 13/09/2023 12:32

It was on my feed for some reason. What other questions were there, @stealtheatingtunnocks?

Police Scotland found that none of his crimes were linked to LGBT Youth Scotland, its staff or young people.

They’ve got some front there. The whole culture around it was awful post-Rennie - Cowie went to the police, they didn’t want to know, that made him go public about it.

TeenEyeroll · 20/09/2023 13:41

I believe Rennie was the first CEO of it with the name LGBT Youth Scotland, prior to that it was called Stonewall Youth Project where he volunteered.

ArabeIIaScott · 20/09/2023 14:01

Thanks. It's pretty clear that Rennie was instrumental in the formation of the organisation.

Awumminnscotland · 20/09/2023 14:27

Lgbt youth Scotland are one of the 'third party agencies' responsible for the current gender ideology being taught in scottish primary schools.
