Continuation of Thread 1

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

Yes, some of our memory and thinking is 'audible' too - and not just words. Poems remembered in childhood can be gradually retrieved. My short term memory definitely has a strong audible/verbal component, if I want to remember a phone number I need to 'say' it.

ExiledElsie · 15/01/2023 09:59

And rhythmic (watch Teepa Snow for what memory faculties are kept even when dementia kicks in).

I am not subscribed to the Telegraph so can't read that article. Not surprised if men blame women, isn't that the first rule of misogyny?

On a lighter note, the discreet flasher in Nottingham House of Fraser was described as a woman in the local paper initially. So a load of men commented asking to see the pictures. A woman obliged. Seems like men weren't so keen after that.

Tricyrtis2022 · 15/01/2023 10:04

Here you go, Elsie: 12ft.io/proxy?q=www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/01/14/women-erased-trans-extremism/

There is progress shown with the Nottingham Post now though, unless it is a different local paper, as it is calling the flasher “a person” and “they” rather than “woman”. I doubt tras will dare write in to call it dehumanising hate speech and say the flasher’s human rights have been violated. So many papers write the blatant lie that the criminal sexual deviant being reported on is a “woman”.

“A statement has been issued after photos of a person appearing to indecently expose themselves in a Nottingham designer shop caused rage on social media. The censored pictures have been widely shared on social media, depicting a person seemingly exposing their private parts in public.”

Apropos our minds, who sees a Nottingham department store, Victorian architecture, brick, bustle of people and cars outside, damp, grey day, but inside a changing room and a man in a wig and a skirt?

Who hears a report, or sees words in a newspaper instead?

ExiledElsie · 15/01/2023 10:29

Yes they changed it after people (probably women) pointed out it wasn't a woman.

Thanks.

Trigger warning - flasher

Thanks.

I have just found the photos of the man who looks like a transwoman who exposed
himself in the Nottingham shop (who took the photos of his poses?). In one he is in the women’s underwear department which is the backdrop while he lifts his short black dress to show his stockings and suspenders and his *** as he is not wearing knickers. In another he is doing the same in the sheets and bedding department; in two others he is sitting drinking coffee with his legs spread.

Now it is clear, my mind’s eye completely failed to see this man correctly. I defy anyone to have imagined what he was really like or his evident sense impunity. He is grinning in every picture.

Ewww. The mental images are quite enough for me 🤮

Just listening to this

It's an interview with Helen Joyce in quillette. At about 35/36 mins in she is talking about the importance of language. She gives the Allison Bailey case and the discussion of the cotton ceiling as an example.

It links to how we think because she said the woman arguing that the cotton ceiling is not coercive seemed to believe what she was saying, whilst HJ had her legs crossed because she had such a visceral reaction to the idea of being a lesbian pressurised in such a way.

HJ said she could only assume that the woman was thinking in an entirely abstract way, not really engaging with the reality.

Hence HJ uses "man" because "transwoman" doesn't get through to reality.

Chest feeder is so repugnant. Unless you have actual breasts you are feeding no one no matter how much you'd like to believe you are/can.

I've not seen similar for AMAB and wonder, do we use descriptors like "person who provides sperm" ? I've not heard anything like this but it may exist. All the descriptors I've heard are about erasing women.

SinnerBoy · 15/01/2023 15:37

This thread's got some heavy traffic and is on subject, re changing rooms:

Tricyrtis2022 · 15/01/2023 16:48

Been following that thread and most posters are entirely reasonable. Women and girls have known we're the prey of men since the dawn of time.

The bloke saying that he doesn't think men are turned on by watching women undress has got his head up his arse.

SinnerBoy · 15/01/2023 16:49

He's, erm, a bit different, I'll grant you!

Tricyrtis2022 · 15/01/2023 17:06

He's an idiot, imho.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 15/01/2023 17:14

Nipping briefly off topic again, one of my objections to ebooks is that I have no idea where I am in them. I can only use them for novels, not anything with information I might want to refer back to.

It doesn’t even make any sense. Men have breasts too.

@SinnerBoy I've been out all day, that changing room thread is quite long now. Do you know if the Equality Act petition has been posted on it?

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn completely agree with you about ebooks, I find them no good for reference.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/01/2023 20:14

It has been, but that's not to say it couldn't be again.

I'm not sure, it's been such a busy one.....

I posted it there once yesterday but it might be time for another as the thread is so long now. Get it in incase MN says this is “not in the spirit.”

ScrollingLeaves · 16/01/2023 09:48

I posted that petition again, as did another poster.

IcakethereforeIam · 16/01/2023 10:33

Thanks @ScrollingLeaves and all the others.

Has anyone posted the Times article about the Home Office yet?
