Dictionary.com has chosen "woman" as its word of the year, noting that the term was "inseparable from the story of 2022". The decision "reflects how the intersection of gender, identity, and language dominates the current cultural conversation", the online lexicon said.

It also talks about the "ever evolving discourse over the definition of the word".
Funny how there's no discourse over the definition of the word "man". Why might that be I wonder?

There was an article in the Telegraph today (sorry, sent as a screenshot to my phone) about the Cambridge English Dictionary changing the definition of 'woman' to include anyone who identifies as a woman. The definitions also talk about transitioning.

Fortunately no one I know has ever used the Cambridge English Dictionary — and I work in publishing, where we use various dictionaries. I'm wondering if the Cambridge dictionary is in use in schools. There's something about it that looks as if it's aimed at younger non-professional users.

Well, that Guardian article wasn't as twisted as I anticipated!

What I found fascinating, is the previous words of the year and the seeming progression to now.

This will always be bizarre.
